***June 2016 ACT Discussion Thread***

@SirSly @CATDECAL

That’s 12am central though. 1am if you’re on the east coast, and I don’t think west coast people usually get them 10 days after.

@ThatOneWeirdGuy You are correct about it being central time. You are incorrect about geography (at least in the US) being a factor. It is not.

@CATDECAL 1am east coast is 12 central time lol…

@czebos Obviously. Not sure what your “lol” is about. The release is generally at 12AM Central (1 AM Eastern, 10 PM West Coast, etc.) However what state you are in does not effect if your test is released on the first day, or on a subsequent day, which is what I was communicating.

@CATDECAL you’re misinterpreting what thatonewierdguy was saying. He just meant that if you’re on the east coast, then you will receive it at 1am EDT. While in the Midwest, you receive it 12 CST. They’re the same time.

So does that mean they are released at 10 PM on June 20th in California?

@DryMango They’ll be released at 10pm June 21st in California.

I got 35 in April, curious to see what I would get in June test ?

Just curious, why did you retake the test if you got a 35 the first time? A 35 and 36 have essentially the same weight on an application. Again I’m just curious and mean no disrespect.

@czebos I was trying to clarify that “I don’t think west coast people usually get them 10 days after” comment. The phrasing was strange, and in every thread you always see people talk about “I got my scores, I’m on the east coast.” And “No scores here yet, I’m in the mid-west.”

I was just trying to correct the pervasive myth that your geographic location effects the DAY of the release.

Sorry for not being more clear.

Ahhhh fair enough. Miscommunication over the Internet is no surprise. @CATDECAL

With minimal studying (aka i looked up a couple act tips the Thursday before the test), is there a chance i could have raised my score by 2-3 points? I felt like i did well on the test, but am amateur when it comes to knowing the act.

@Bilbohistory It certainly can’t hurt to pick up a couple of tips. And as far as “possibility” of course there is! There can be pretty big swings from one test to the next for any number of reasons.

Just the fact that you were more familiar with the test the second go round can do nothing but help.

If you want to get serious about test prep thought, you can REALLY move the needle.

From my son’s Sophomore test until his last test as a rising Senior, he went up 8 points.

From my daughter’s Sophomore test until her Junior year test she went up 9 points (Super Score +10.) We are waiting on her June results where she took it as a rising Senior. This will likely be her last test regardless of results, as she is already in a strong enough position, and will be sending out applications within a couple of months.

@Bilbohistory Probably not, but it is possible. It depends on how long ago your first test was - if it was back in the fall you might have learned more content in a math class to succeed on the math section this time around (or on any other section really). If you know you did bad a certain section last time and better this time, a point increase is possible. I’ve been studying and practicing for 7+ months now and have only gone up 2 points on an actual exam- 27 (26.5) to a 29 (29.0). I’m hoping I can say I’ve gone up at least three points next week though!

Can we get a curve guess?

@ChancetheGuesser I’ve heard people say that this test was exactly the same as the February 2015 test, which had pretty harsh curves for Reading and Science (-1 was a 34 for both of them). As for Math and English, I’m not sure.

Anyone else terrified of getting their scores next Wednesday ?

@student2021 I’m freaking out about getting my scores…

I saw someone suggest on a reddit thread that maybe -1 was still a 36 in science and -2 was a 34 for feb. 2015. Maybe there’s still hope? Idk. No way to know until the 21st

These are standardized tests so we do have to have faith that the scores will be at least similarly consistent. There can’t be a drastic change in the number of students scoring any given composite score test to test. Maybe we’re so focused that the mark bands are harsher this test that we haven’t thought that maybe some of these sections were easier?
