Jym! My 'Heels are still alive!

And so are your Owls! Tomorrow’s game decides the bracket.

Go Heels! Go Owls! (I’m just waaay too conflicted on this one! ;))

A thread with my name in the title! How cool is that! Now I really don’t care if Rice whoops UNC by either a small or a large margin tomorrow :D

Any others following the NCAA baseball? Please oh kind CC buddies-- support poor little Rice. It’s baseball team is the best thing happening to its sports department!! The alums and Board of Trustees voted to stay a Div I school (despite the recommendations of the independent review done by a big financial institution to drop to a DIV III) and the tuition, parking fees and assorted ancillary costs have all risen to support this decision. In contrast, UNC has so many powerhouse sports teams, it can afford to spread the wealth around a bit. Let l’il ol’ Rice have its glory. The coach is in his 70’s- Played ball with Louis DeRocher (sp?) and other “classics” way back when. He will probably retire soon, and poor l’il Rice will pay the price (liteally and figuratively). As much as I like ldmom06, please everyone, a rousing chorus of “GO OWLS!”

SA members- please get those marmots to go chew up the UNC bats or something. (Too bad the bats are aluminum these days… :frowning: )

hehehe!!! GO OWLS!!

…(and 'Heels!)

What can I say…baseball may be one of the best things about Rice…but Rice is one of the best things about Houston. If I end up not able to root for UNC in the championship game, I’ll be screaming for Rice.

And same here, ldmom06-
If Rice loses, I’ll be rootin’ for UNC for the rest of the tournament. Younger s is probably applying to UNC next year. I am already lining up my allegiance.

Even though I don’t follow baseball all that much, the enthusiasm for baseball on the Rice section of Facebook is contagious. GO OWLS!!!

Alright thesiren!!! Woo hoo!

I’m pretty embarrassed. Ldmom, I thought you were doing Julie Andrews with an Italian accent (as in “the heels are alive, wit’ the sounda music”). Oops.

All I can say is, I guess, go owls.

Alright hayden!! Funny and supportive at the same time!!

Sorry jym,
Gotta throw my vote to the Heels!
My alma mater.
Too bad baseball doesn’t get the following basketball and football do. Play ball!

Whoot Whoot. GO OWLS! I made my daughter send me email updates while I was in my forestry group meeting up in northern Michigan. I was sneaking peeks at my Blackberry during the whole meeting.

OWLS will win. They won in 2003 when D was entering Rice and will win to cap off her 4 years there now that she has graduated.

[lol hayden…after creating the thread it occurred to me that it sounded like I was celebrating the resolution of a podiatric issue.]

As I was saying to jym earlier…should be a great game tomorrow. The Tar Heels and Owls are two of the best homegrown teams out there (due in large part to those great Houston and NC baseball training grounds). It’s a shame they are in the same bracket…a UNC/Rice championship game would be killer.

yeah, ldmom06, that would probaby kill me!

Go Owls! (I mentioned this game to my DD. Party pooper… she shrugged and said, “eh”. Not exactly a sports enthusiast, but she does love Rice. Maybe I can get younger bro interested!) :)

Game’s at 1 pm tomorrow (central time??) then the winner plays Oregon State

jym- the College World Series website has the Rice-UNC game at 7PM EST/6PM CST today. That’s what my morning newspaper said, too.

Don’t want you to miss it!

patsmom is right. The game is tonight.

Yes, thanks. I may have been looking at the gametime for yesterday’s game. It is tonight, 6pm central time (7 pm est)

Ok, my underdog Anteaters lost yesterday, and they had such cute uniforms with 'Eaters across the front! And who can resist the Zot?!

So here I am throwing myself into the Tarheels or Owl group…how to decide…how to decide?!

I love underdogs, so that should put me in the Oregon St. camp, but they won last year with their more senior laden team…so…how to decide…how to decide.

I love college baseball, in fact my favorite season was the first time Rice won it all…how to decide…how to decide.

In fact, my screen name refers to my love of baseball. It also happens to be the first initial’s of the three boys in my life. I thought I was being so clever, until I realized that 3Ks also has an unintended connotation. But I’m stuck with it now.

Sorry for your loss, 3ks. So… have you decided who to throw your support behind?? The small univ. “David” or the big U “Goliath”?

No, I’m terribly irrational about my baseball, as my boys say. Things like cute uniforms or good back stories. I’ll know as I watch the game and develop an affinity for one or the other.

We knew players in both the Arizona St and Irvine match up, so that was fun.
