If you’re not watching, it’s worth tuning in just to see Johnny Weir’s outfit.
He and Tara have graduated from ice skating to horse racing commentary and he’s gone ALL out for the occasion, even by Johnny standards.

Can I admit I fast forward all the fashion and cooking parts of the show? Strictly horses here - no eyes or care for anything else. Rooting mostly for the favorites of Justify or Mendelssohn (match race?), but wouldn’t mind seeing Bolt D’Oro or a couple other inexpensive longshots for the story behind them. 'Tis a tough race to win with a 20 horse field, then add the slop.
Definitely! JW pulled out all the stops today!
We’ve placed a few bets and will be off soon to have dinner with friends at a place which will have the race on, then to the theatre after.
The slop will definitely make it more interesting.
Going with Audible. Maybe a flyer on Vino Rosso. And I don’t watch any of the NBC coverage until the horses are on the track. I’m watching TVG until then.
I’m otherwise playing cards on my computer, but the TV is on (delayed) in the background so I can fast forward the boring parts. I’ll be up to live shortly before the race.
Even in my high school days I only noticed boys if they were on a decent horse - well, I noticed the horse and figured out who rode him/her. Once in a while that was a male.
Is there any surprise that I’d grow up to raise ponies, albeit English show ponies vs TB racers? I’ve seen every Derby since Secretariat’s. His TC got me hooked forever.
Going for Bolt d’ Oro since Victor Espinoza is the jockey.
Bolt D’oro because of his story; Bravazo because of his trainer (originally from central Wisconsin and proving that 80 somethings still have much to contribute).
Hard to not love the Ruis Racing/Bolt D’Oro story.
^^^ Both Calumet and D Wayne Lukas bring back a ton of memories for some of us. They definitely get the nostalgia bet.
Laila Ali is a beauty.
Audible because I like Todd Pletcher or Mendelsson because I would love to see the Irish trainer win. Absolutely not Bolt D’Ora because the owner/trainer looks like he rolled out of bed to head to Walmart, not like he is running a Kentucky Derby horse. He is wearing a t-shirt with no jacket which is in no way appropriate to my sensibilities as a Kentuckian. I saw the segment on how he feels he is the little man in the race, but that doesn’t mean he needs to dress like someone would dress to muck out a stall in the wee hours of the day.
Pletcher used to work with Lukas, so I like him, too. But he has three horses in the race: which to choose?
Justify or Promised Fulfilled are my choices.
Eh, I still can’t fathom judging based upon clothing. I never did understand doing that - for anything. I liked 4H showing because they allow kids to wear whatever they have and only insist upon safety equipment. This dude isn’t poor, but I don’t feel he needs to conform to anyone’s standards.

I like him even more now.
Let’s be honest, the Kentucky Derby crowd has turned into more Carnival attire than nice attire these days.
That was exciting!
I liked Flameaway on the way to the post. Was doing great for the first half. :). But ran out of gas and dropped to 13th.
Awesome race. Justify reminds me of Seattle Slew’s racing. We’ll see if he can do the next two, but today sure looked like he ought to be able to.
I feel sorry for Mendelssohn. Really horrid start. He lost the race there.
The people who dress outrageously are not typically the horse people.
