Kicked out

So i recently just got kicked out of a volunteer extracurricular that I do because I did not attend enough. I agree that I reallly was not committed and should not have stayed, however, i still have nearly 100 hours for this activity. Can I put this on the college app or would it be a bad idea?

Sure. Just don’t include that you were kicked out.

@IvyClimber117‌ Ok thanks, just making sure. Also, there wouldn’t be any way for them to really know if I got kicked out right?

No, they have no idea.

Most likely, they won’t find out - unless they call whoever’s in charge of your volunteer group, which most likely won’t happen. You should be fine

@bopper‌
thanks

@noemii‌
I am kind of paranoid, but like percentage wise or give me another comparison as to how “unlikely” it is they would call the head of my volunteer group?

Just put the dates or grades of the activity: Basket weaving, grades 9-11, 100 hours of community service doing blah blah. You don’t have to put the reason you left. If they do call, then what you said was true.

@redpoodles‌
ok thanks, I am not so much worried about lying though as I am that if they find out, how bad it would look. So I am just trying to figure out how likely it is they would find out.

@redpoodles‌ Lol basket weaving?

I’d say there’s basically a 0% chance they’ll call. Having 100+ hours for an organization isn’t weird at all - if you had like 10000000000000+ hours, then they would probably call.

Just saying, they don’t have time to check out every EC for every applicant. They’ll probably just assume that you left.

Things that they would actually bother to check out are “suspicious” ECs - ex. Olympic Gold Medalist for Underwater Basket Weaving.

No need to be paranoid, you’re fine.

Basic honesty would force you to NOT list any activity of which you’re not a member.

Padding your application is not a good idea.Will ;you get caught? Who knows.But don’t resort to lying. You should think more of yourself than that.

And one volunteer activity isn’t going to make the difference in any college. Why sacrifice your personal integrity for it???

If you’re just thinking of applications now, I assume you’re a junior. Why not join some activities you can devote the appropriate time to?

It’s discouraging to see how many people are encouraging you to lie.

@bjkmom no one is encouraging OP to lie. He (or she) invested 100 hours of his free time volunteering for this organization. There is no reason NOT to include this activity on his application. The activities section on the common app is used to show what the applicant has been involved in during grades 9-12. Kids participate in sports, clubs, music, etc. some years and not others. Are they required to explain why they are no longer involved? Of course not – there is barely enough space to even describe the activity. As long as the applicant lists only the grade(s) and hours he was actually involved, he is not lying.

OP – be proud that you donated almost 100 hours of your time to this organization. Shame on them for not being more appreciative.

  1. OP no college is ever going to call your volunteer coordinator. That’s insane. Use logic.
  2. @bjkmom: OP is worried that it’ll be revealed that he/she was booted. The 100 logged volunteer hours are correct. There’s no dishonesty here – just the logical suggestion that there is NO REASON to state that he/she was booted out.

My daughter was in color guard 10 and 11th grades. Due to a car accident she sort of faded out of color guard in 12th grade. She still said that she did color guard in 10 and 11th grades. You still did 100 hours of volunteer work.
