Actually I did the very same thing for 2 of my jobs…one of which happened during my first year out of college.

The first job I quit without having another lined up was after my employer fell behind on paying me the promised salary by two months and being yelled at for legitimately inquiring about it. Had a confrontation with him to insist he paid me what I was owed and not too long after getting all paycheck arrears cleared, quit as I didn’t want to work for someone who was this flaky about honoring his commitments…and being angry when asked about it. Ridiculous.

Second job where I quit before having another job lined up was because I wasn’t only yelled at and had my supervisor dump all of his responsibilities on my shoulders in addition to my own, but also asked to sign documents I wasn’t legally allowed to sign because I didn’t have the appropriate mandated license. And yes, I reported it to his supervisors and did the same to the local regulatory body.

The first was a moot point as I wasn’t getting paid reliably anyways and the second would have meant placing me into legal jeopardy if I had complied with the request which prompted me to quit.

Sometimes, life’s too short to deal with flaky entitled employers looking to excessively exploit your labor and sometimes asking you to do dishonorable/illegal things.
