Kohls...never again.

I think once or twice when the cashier said “you saved…” I said “does anyone really ever pay that?” I wanted to say “does anyone really believe that?” but I didn’t.

Yep…^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ to all the above posts!

The educated consumer line was from Sy and Marcy Syms , of the Syms discount store. They also had the “discount” pricing, but IIRC, they got leftovers, samples, display items and last seasons stuff from dept stores, so the tags were probably accurate. Not sure all were, though. The family had a huge feud over the family fortune and the stores went bankrupt.

What a shame @jym626 about Syms discount stores and what happened with the family squabble. I’m sure this happens often enough when the next generation or their offspring don’t follow a successful business model. This happened with two brothers I know that brought down their dad’s company; another set of brothers that when father gave them control, they shut him out - eventually sold the business. Sad.

Something similar happened with men’s wearhouse.

I do not like shopping, period. But I could not miss the last deal. I got 30% and $15 off on top of it. And some deals were going on in a store. I do not know how true they are, but I ended up with grand presents for my D. and grandD… One got the amethyst necklace for &27 (original price was $100) and another got opal earrings also for $27 (originally marked for $250). I got myself (did not plan on it, but could not resist) a long dress and 2 long skirts (down to the floor), for total of $34 including tax. I will wear skirts to work. It was a hit for me this time, sometime it is not and more often than not, I simply do not go even when I have 30% off. But combined with $15 off, it was way too good. In addition, I did not spend much time at Kohl’s at all this time, jewelry sales person was right there for me. Sometime I just leave if I have to wait. I am not a shopper at all, I shop very few times per year.

Glad you found something you like, Miami. But as others have said, at Kohl’s the bottom line is what you paid, not what nonsensical sticker price they put on the tag. Kinda like college admissions!

Well I went to Kohl’s to pay my last month bill (using school script/gift cards) and also to use my $5 Yes2You reward that I forgot to use last time in the store. Scored on some yoga pants, regularly $30, on sale for $12.99 Sonoma - nice quality, so my out of pocket was a little over $10. Another personally rewarding thing was I thought I would need a XLg and a Lg fit perfectly.

Had $10 off $25 purchase coupons at JCP (one in newspaper, three through my JCP statement or separate mailings) so I was able to buy H 2 S/S Dress Shirts (sale price $12.99 each minus $10), H 2 golf shirts (sale $13.99 each minus $10), two Liz Claiborne tops (sale price $24 and $17 less $10), and Liz Claiborne Khaki slacks (sale $35 less $10).

Glad we don’t need much though - and checking account has been building up since we now have less and less to buy/pay for with the college kids now that they are stocked up in their apts.

The next time there is 30% off, I plan to order the Nordic Ware microwave egg cooker (with enough other items to return, to get free shipping).

I’ve never liked Kohl’s. I really can’t explain it but everything in there is so contrived. It’s like a fake dept. store. Reminds me of Disney World, too perfect. LOL.
That said, I think it’s obvious that their stuff is junk when they can give such “amazing” discounts. I mean, seriously, can you really expect to get a $100 item for a buck-ninety-eight in the end? Why, yes, people do think that. @@
And the ads!!! Which mercifully seem to have stopped, now that I think of it. Maybe they are losing too much money? Anyway, every. single. week. they were having “the biggest sale of the year”, “lowest prices of the season”. I mean, really? Every week?

The pricing and coupons drive me crazy too. But sometimes the deals surprise me. I recently bought some higher end Asics running shoes with a 30% discount code I found on the internet. That was the lowest price I found by far. I did take a chance buying running shoes online, but the discount was too great to pass up. And they fit perfectly!

Kohl’s and JCP do have some great deals. It is mass marketing. DDs sometimes go with me to the store and sometimes not - usually can find them something like sports bras that they can use.

Belk was just bought out, so it will be interesting to see how Belks changes - I think it will continue its growth for regional dept store type of store. They bought out AL Parisian and have been continuing to gear more upscale.

@madison, are you ordering the egg cooker to be shipped because the store doesn’t have it? If so, you can usually find everything on the kiosk in store and get free shipping without having to order other stuff to return for free shipping. Not long ago,I did find an online code for free shipping, i used it with my 30%. I love having the kiosk to get my size when the store doesn’t have it.

I bought pants for son that were the wrong size. I went in and ordered the right size on the kiosk, shipped free. When they come I will take both receipts I and they will refund me the price of whichever was higher. They weren’t on sale when I ordered at the kiosk, but they will refund me kiosk pair price and I will return the wrong size pair. Just need both receipts. Prices are better, with coupon, on some sneakers than at the new so-called outlets that just opened near me. Coupons not good on Nike anymore due to nike rules. No store allow coupons on Nike, kohls was the last one that did, until recently.

But JCP does let you use their $10 earned rewards towards Nike (it can be used to anything purchased). DD picked out some Nike shoes on sale and I used $20 in rewards.

I don’t get the junk comment. I recently got a KitchenAid mixer for a really great deal. I don’t think of Kohls as trying to be an upscale store nor do I want it to be.

Anyone has Kohl’s 30% coupon code for this week? Thanks.

SPLURGE30

@hopeful820

@Madison85, thank you.

I like Kohls for my teen/early 20s kids – they want the latest fashion (especially D), not something that is going to last. Over the years I have learned that some Kohls sales are better than others (Black Friday is especially good) and never, ever buy anything without a coupon. When they are offering a coupon, you can always find the 30% one online. On two occasions, when we had purchased a lot of stuff in the store (but only had the 15% coupon), I actually re-ordered the stuff online so I could use the 30% off coupon.

I am not able to use SPLURGE30 because I don’t have a Kohls card.
I tried to use SAVE20 on a nutribullet but it wouldn’t work.
