LAC's that give out tons of money?

Hi,

Which LAC’s have generous financial aid packages? I’m looking around the New England area, but anywhere on the East Coast works for me. My parents are fairly wealthy, but I have 4 other siblings and I’m the oldest. My parents cannot afford to send me to a costly college at all.

The reason I’m asking this is because I’ve heard that small colleges typically give out huge amounts of money to try and attract students to their college.

Thank you.

Colleges give merit aid to students at the very top, stats wise, of their applicant pool.

We can help you if you give us an idea of grades/rank, scores and special talents.

Most LACs will give you a similar FA package, with at most a 5,000 dollar discrepancy.

my brother went to Albion College and they gave him money for a very, very modest GPA. Its in the midwest (Michigan), but its a really great school.

Which are you really asking about: FA (need based) or merit scholarships (based on gpa, scores, ECs, etc.), or both??

This kind of generality is not true:
“I’ve heard that small colleges typically give out huge amounts of money to try and attract students to their college.”

There are small colleges with large endowments that can afford to give good FA packages, and there are others with smaller endowments which are not able to. There are small colleges that have merit scholarships to attract students, and there are small colleges that are prestigious and don’t use merit scholarships to attract students. Categorizing FA/merit aid by school size is simplistic and ultimately misleading.

Colleges known to be generous financially are (not limited to): Amherst, Williams, Swarthmore, Wellesley, Wesleyan…
