LACs with High Merit Awards for High Stats / Good EC student?

I’m not very knowledgeable about individual colleges but I do know that TCNJ The College of NJ is a highly regarded, rigorous public LAC with good law school advising. My friends DD is a junior there majoring in philosophy planning on law school in the future, her dad is an alum who also went on to law school. The DD is LGBTQ and because it’s a public NJ school it’s more diverse than some of the others on your list plus it’s not rural. It’s larger at over 6,000 students and she’s likely to get enough merit to get to the 30K number. I don’t have much insight but I thought I’d throw TCNJ out there. Good luck, your daughter will be great wherever she goes!

Not sure if Fordham (NY) has been considered but NMF can = full tuition there and she can take classes at two different campuses, which appeals to some.

@OceanIsle OP has already ruled out Fordham for reasons expressed earlier in the thread.

Thanks, @amsunshine . My bad, did not read all of the pages. Good luck, OP. You are certainly doing your research.

My oldest is almost identical to yours in stats. Live in Midwest, biracial (white/Asian), lesbian. Unweighted GPA 4.0, NMF, ACT 34, SAT low 1500s. Currently 3rd yr at Oberlin. We didn’t qualify for any financial aid. Applied to Oberlin, Wooster, Kenyon, Smith, Grinnell, Earlham, Bard. Considered Denison, Sarah Lawrence, Macalester. Accepted at all she applied to with merit at all except Bard (found out when applying for the “merit” that Bard takes financial need into account for the few merit scholarships they offer). Merit awards came in at about $20-25K everywhere except for Earlham that awarded full-tuition. It was difficult to turn that down but she’d had her heart set on Oberlin from the beginning.

Make sure she considers applying for the MHC Diversity Fly-In. My D attended it this Fall and while MHC wasn’t a great fit for her generally, the program was great and super generous

DePauw University. Small school with a big school feel. Academically rigorous. My son is learning both traditional and simplified characters in his Mandarin courses. He is Asians Studies/Political Science with a minor in Mandarin and also in the Honor Scholar Program. He has had some very interesting and engaging honor scholar seminars with some of the best professors. Her stats should yield a very generous merit award. New dorm opens up August 2020.

@pickleberry7 any updates on your D’s search? I’m guessing she’s had to make do mostly with virtual visits (after the trip to Emory and Agnes Scott)?

She might like the vibe at Earlham and they are good with merit. It’s very welcoming.
