Ladies: How Do You Cleanse Your Face?

Would you share your cleansing routine? Favorite products? Helpful hints? Tricks borrowed from others?

I was with friends over the weekend and this topic came up. One of the ladies swears she uses Pond’s cold cream just as her grandmother did! Said she slathers it on and removes it with a damp wash cloth! Her skin is lovely! Made me wonder if I’m wasting my money on expensive products! Perhaps genetics dictates more than we think?

^^:):):)

Another here who uses Ponds because of Grandmama. Frequently I’m told I have good skin. My mother and grandmother and aunts all had very good skin. I’m going to go out on a limb here and question whether it has anything to do with skin care products at all. Maybe they were just lucky. They did believe in keeping out of the sun. We are all very fair-skinned women.

Wash it in the evening with Dial soap, wash it in the morning (most mornings – not all) with Dove soap, and use Lubriderm liberally. When I know I’m going to be outside, I use sun block, but not everyday like some (wise) people do. I’ve been using Lubriderm since my early 30s and I’m used to it. There’s nothing else I like as much.

Aveeno scrubby pads every morning. Oil of Olay moisturizing sunblock on most days.

Aveeno cleansing pads in the green container and the occasional mud mask (Body Shop, $22, lasts about a year). Harsher products irritate my skin.

My biggest skin care secret (aside from good genes and sunscreen) is diet. An avocado a week; five a day of fruit and veggies; lots of green and white tea; dark chocolate. Exercise. Your skin, like every other part of your body, is constructed entirely out of the food you eat.

I agree with this. That’s why I want to start drinking green smoothies everyday.

Cetaphil cleanser morning and night . Oil of Olay with sunblock for moisturizer. Both are purchased from Costco.

And lots of water. :)

I use no products other than whatever I’m using in the shower and Aveeno skin care lotion after every shower. I do think I have decent skin (the Mediterranean in me!!).

Dove soap, followed by Olay Regenerist lotion w/sunblock in the morning and their night cream at night.

My great aunt lived into her 100’s and had beautiful skin her whole life - but she guarded her secret. When they cleaned out her house they found her secret - Nivea.

I use Cetaphil and a prescription moisturizer and sunscreen (Elta MD)

I have dry skin so wouldn’t dream of using soap on my face, particularly bar soap. I visited my mom once and forgot my cleanser and used soap and my face felt really tight and dry. I also have rosacea so need to use a mild cleanser. My favorite budget cleanser is Lumene Refreshing Foam Cleanser.

I use a washcloth moistened with very hot water (nothing else) and give a good scrub with it. Afterwards I use Aveda night cream. If I’ve been doing something that actually involves dirt (which is fairly common, since I spend a lot of time training my dogs in horse barns), I may use two or three washcloths to make sure I get all the dirt off.

Thinking about it, while I “wash” my face in the shower, I don’t use much of anything on it except for the hot water. I also wear little to no make up so I think that makes a difference.

BareMinerals foaming face cleanser in the evening and Rodan + Fields Redefine Daily Cleansing Mask in the morning. I swear by Retin-A, too.

My D loves the BareMinerals cleanser too. I have also used hers and like it. I’ve always read and believed that washing your face with hot water in the shower is not a good thing and that really hot water is not a good thing for your face generally. The theory is that the water from the shower can break capillaries.

Nutrogena bar soap mornings, followed by Oil of Olay moisturizer with sunscreen. Actually this is pretty much morning and night … I wear makeup and don’t want to sleep in it.

Cetaphil cleanser at night followed by either Retin-A (every 3-4 days) or an Oil of Olay cream. In the morning it’s just a washcloth with cold water followed by a vitamin C serum and a sunscreen/moisture lotion. The type of sunscreen lotion varies.

I think genetics plays a big part. I have been complimented on my skin and use soap and water to wash face, oil of olay prior to foundation.

Neutrogena healthy skin soap, once a week-ish Murad pomegranate exfoliator, and moisturizer (I think it’s L’Oreal) at night once or twice a week. Lots of water. Sunscreen or a hat all summer; I am whatever comes beyond fair and my husband teases me that the light in the frig could give me a burn. Everything scented or Retin-A irritates my skin, so I avoid product as a daily thing.

Genetics does play a large part. Some people have nice skin. Some people have…not so nice skin. I’ve never had problems with acne.

I wash my face morning and night with Clean & Clear Daily Cleanser Daily Pore Cleanser. Nothing fancy. The simplest of the simple keeps my skin clear of blemishes and such.
