Ladies, lets talk face products!

How do you keep the brown spots from re-appearing? I have freckles and did couple of IPL treatments, which made them very faint. I am very careful to put 50 or above SPF with zink when I am in a sun (which I try to avoid), but still the freckles re-appeared after a while. I also wear make up with SPF. I don’t think the freckles are as intense as before, but still - so much money down the drain :(.

I think I already mentioned that I use medical grade skin care products, like IS clinical and Revision. I am lucky in a sense that I look younger than I am. When I compare myself to my friends, I am convinced that it is a function of genetics (both of my parents are the same way), lifestyle (no smoking, no tanning beds, no sun bathing) and a little bit of help from medical spas (couple of laser treatments, but NO botox, restalin, etc.).

Another vote for Cetaphil. When I heard people rave aboue CeraVe, I tried it. Made my skin rough and scaly. Cetaphil makes it soft and clean.

Absolutely. I look younger than my age (55), and I attribute about 75% of that to my parents, who both looked far younger than their ages until near the end of their lives, when they were in their 80s. The other 25% is religiously staying out of the sun (I’m extremely pale, and as Woody Allen said, I don’t tan, I stroke) and never having smoked.

Lerkin,
It sounds like you are doing what you can to keep the freckles from coming back. I have friends who have had laser treatments and the spots come back.

You might try using the Clinique Spot stuff everyday as a way to keep them from reappearing. Although it says on the bottle that they will not help actual freckles. Do you have freckles or are they age spots?

I have freckles. I bought IS Clinical whitening serum, but have not used it yet because I am waiting to run out of their Active Serum.

I am used to my freckles because I’ve had them since I was a child. I just wish I have not spent the money on IPL with marginal end result.

I am not planning on having any more IPL or laser treatments, because I did not find the change worth the money. However, I highly recommend microdemobrasion (I am not sure of spelling) on regular basis. It is relatively inexpensive and I like the results.

A few years ago I went through a phase of researching the ingredients that were most effective in the war against aging skin. What I learned was that most popular skincare brands do not have a sufficient percentage of any ingredient in their lines, mostly because of the fear that one of their customers will have a negative reaction.

This led to a short lived stage of making my own homemade products.

Then I found the Cellbone website, and have been ordering their products ever since. I am very happy with their line, but you need to call or email customer service and ask them for their suggestions for your particular skin type, because their website lacks pertinent information regarding the layering of products.

I’m another one who likes CeraVe. I use the night time moisturizer. What do you all do for broken capillaries on your face besides cover-up?

I’ve been using CeraVe cleanser since my skin got extremely dry about a year ago and really like it. I also use the night time moisturizer both night and day. There’s still some flaking on my forehead and between my eyes. I need an spf. My makeup (bare minerals) has one but I don’t trust it to do the job. My skin is very, very sensitive due to an autoimmune. I need to get to a dermatologist and see what they recommend. I feel like I need an exfoliator but I don’t want to use anything that’s going to be too harsh. I would love a little juvederm under my eyes where I’ve had dark circles all my life, but that’s vanity (and $$$). Botox isn’t common here, but not uncommon if that makes sense. You know if someone’s told you, but nothing overt.

blueiguana – Have you ever tried a Clarisonic brush for exfoliation? I too have very dry skin and I have loved what it’s done for my face. I use my regular Cetaphil cleanser with it and use the brush for sensitive skin. I’ve really noticed a difference in how well my serum and moisturizers are able to penetrate the skin since I’ve been using it regularly. I have the travel size, the Mia, and it stays charged in my shower for weeks at a time.

I like the Avon Anew line. I’ve used it for years, moving up, as I age, to varying levels. As a youth, I had oily skin. Now I moisturize each morning. I often skip night moisturizing. The Avon website is easy to use, and has many products along with reviews. For cleansing, I use whatever product I pick up at local stores…my skin is rather tolerant! It’s the dark circles under my eyes that I would like to improve.

I just have to jump in…The other night some silly show asked what irritates men the most when their wives buy it: expensive shoes, purses, perfume, or face cream. My husband blurted out face cream and then added, " because I don’t think it works anyway. "

“WHAT?” I have put cream on my face every day since I turned 18. God only knows how I would look without it. I use Este Lauder, but my husband does not think it works. :(

GRITS (is this Girls Raised In The South? ),
I have not tried the Clarisonic. I didn’t know if those were gimmick-y or not. I had something similar when I was a teen but it was much rougher and obviously not the quality. I remember being concerned that if it didn’t stay exceptionally clean it would just add bacteria to my skin. I’ll have to look into it. Thanks.

^^You guessed it!!!

I use a Clairsonic & I really like it.
I also use a plain body brush as well, its good for your circulation.
I dont have broken capillaries or dark circles despite being very fair, but that might be because I take vitamin C and that helps to strenghten the cellular walls.
I think genetics also helps a lot, my grandma had great fascia.
Another thing that helps is limiting things like alcohol & coffee, & staying hydrated.

My favorite cleanser is Calm Skin Chamomile by Eminence Organics. It’s pricey but a little goes a very long way. I also like their Raspberry Pore Refining Mask. I’m not picky about my moisturizer and have found that the cheap stuff works as well as the expensive stuff.

Anti-Aging BB cream. It has a light tint to it so, I don’t like to wear make up for every day, though I 'll use a foundation over it for special occasions. This is a good compromise for me as my skin is not great and ideally I should be wearing make up every day,

I use Arbonne… It’s expensive but it really does work for me, and the person I buy from gives me her dealer discount.

I have been told that liquid makeup clogs pores. I’ve never liked it and never worn it.

I always use moisturizer containing a light sunscreen on my face. The UV rays do a lot of damage even on cloudy days.

Now as to the dark circles… :(

I use Shiseido Benefiance, especially their eye products. It is very rich and smooth. My dermatologist prescribed Avene anti-aging night cream for me, but now I am seeing it at some drug stores. I get a facial fairly often to keep it healthy looking.

I don’t use any cover up (or liquid makeup) on my face, just a bit of blush and some eye shadow in the morning.
