Ladies.......long hair or short?

Medium long…about 3 inches past the top of my shoulders (it’s thrown back in my avatar). Since I’m more pear shaped, I feel it balances my body, it makes me look younger. I"ve had short hair in my early 20’s and I got tired of it…and the grow out period isn’t a lovely time. It’s always touched my shoulder or gone beyond since then.

I have long, straight blonde hair that goes to my mid back. I have never had a short hair cut in my entire life. I do not think it would look attractive on me, but the convenience is tempting. I do a quick blow dry in the morning or if I am at home just pull it back in a pony tail.

Thick, curly, wavy and SHORT. Very short. About to be shorter tonight when I go for a trim!

I refuse to spend more than a minute on my hair - if it was longer all I’d probably do is put it in a ponytail -which seems like not a good solution!

Mine is straight, cut in long layers to just hit my shoulders. I don’t look good in short hair - I have sharp features and some hair around my face softens me a bit. I don’t plan on ever getting a really short cut, although most 80+ year olds seem to have short hair, and I suppose if it’s really fine, it has to be shorter. Maybe by then a chin-length pageboy? I kind of like that look on elderly ladies.

Lifelong long hair person here transitioning to shoulder length. There are SOME women who can continue to pull off long hair throughout their late 40s and beyond, but there aren’t many, and I’ve decided that I’m one who needs to leave that behind.

My 85 yr. old mom just got a choppy bob. looks great on her.

Long-ish. Middle of my back at least. Because (a) my husband and kids hate short hair, and (b) I am very short and large-busted, so I feel fat without some volume around the head and shoulders. I’ve been gray since my middle 20s, so I have used hair color since then as an accessory. In my early 30s, I had waist-length flaming red hair. Now it’s medium brown-ish auburn.

Woah, some people don’t consider past the shoulders hair long??

I would love longer hair, but my hair doesn’t grow past just a little above the bottom of my shoulder blades at the longest, and I have to take a long time to grow it out. I always considered anything longer than shoulder length long.

Very short. I have fine straight hair, natural blond (right now my hair looks platinum as I have been “going gray/white” for a few years now, people think I dye it).

When I was young, it was down to my waist but I was always wearing it up because it just lay there. My mom would make me get perms for “body” and there was always one section in front that wouldn’t take. Nice look!

I first cut it short as a senior in high school—got the Madonna “Papa Don’t Preach” tousled haircut. Since then I have occasionally tried to grow it again but the longest I have gotten it is just above my shoulders. It’s been anywhere from Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby to a chin length bob.

Just yesterday I got one of those cuts with the back and sides semi-shaved and the top left longer and floppy brushed to the side. Easiest thing in the world and works for my running and also my complete lack of any skill when it comes to hair styling; I don’t do blow dryers or curling irons or any product. Never got the hang of it!

Both of my kids have long hair. A hair extension person told me I would look a lot younger with long hair. Fat chance. People can barely guess my age now. My daughter’s business partner said I don’t look a day over 40, to which my second kid said but everybody above 40 is old to her. Haha. That kid needs to grow up.

Mine is several inches past my shoulders with a lot of layers. It takes me less than 10 minutes in the morning. It’s easy and it does what it’s told to do.

Mine is short and layered. It’s very, very fine and because of my meds and PCOS, quite sparse. I’d like it to be shoulder length like it was in college, but there just isn’t enough of it to work.

Short hair for me. Over my ears short. I have very thick wavy hair. My hair stylist is constantly amazed at the bulk of hair that I have. I let it grow out about 15 years ago but it was so heavy that I had headaches… I’ll never do that again. I’ve got a lot of silver streaks moving in. Don’t plan to dye it. I actually kinda like it.

I live in the humid south and run 3 or 4 times a week and usually throw in some kayaking ,boating, biking or walking with DH. Nope, no long hair for me.

Now that I am letting my hair go gray, I am wearing it longer. I am only 45, but almost all gray (thanks Mom) but the long hair makes me look younger. I still have a ton of hair, so it is easier to manage slightly longer. I try to avoid pulling it back as that seems to make me look like a Ma Kettle.

I’m loving this thread. It’s helping me picture all you virtual friends in my head.

I’ve never liked my hair short – my mother made me have short hair when I was growing up and I longed to have long hair (I used to wrap a towel around my head to pretend I had long hair). So when I was in charge, that’s what I did.

I’ve always had it long enough to put in a ponytail, but have varied how long it is. The last year I’ve had it grow a little longer, so it’s about 3 inches below my shoulders. My hair is pretty flat, and I’d like it to have more body. I used to get perms – big mistake, I realize now looking at photos. I have told my hair stylist to tell me when my face is too old to have long hair. I dread that day.

Shoulder length. I put it up/back for the most part. I can’t imagine not being able to get my hair totally out of the way in warm weather. As a kid I was also one of those with a mom who insisted on short hair as a kid. I’d love very long hair, but it doesn’t grow much past my shoulders. As my neck is long, I know there are many lengths between chin and shoulder, and attempting short sounds to scary for the grow out. But sometimes I think I’m perhaps missing something by not trying short hair at least once. Who knows, might be easier. Or more of a pain, as I have odd curls in places that can be hard to tame.

When I was a kid, I could sit on my hair. Don’t think I live with that length anymore, but I never want it to be “short.” It’s just not part of how I see myself. And I do love being able to pull it back in the warm weather.

I’m growing mine out just because. Just to try it. Usually I am short. I think I might like to be an old lady with a bun. Like my grandmother.

I used to have hair to my waist (in junior high), mid-back in HS. I never managed to make ponytails or buns or pile-ups look good. Also tried perms – pure frizz. Even my stylist friend who tried one on me said nope.

My mom has long silver hair, at age 92. She always ties it up in back. I appreciate the contrast with all the tight perms in her age group.
