I ordered Thinx and another brand for my daughter. Won’t have reviews for a while, lol. Looking around on amazon for reviews, some were critical that some brands didn’t have enough coverage on the front side for spills. I guess this comes into play when you’re sleeping. There are lots of positive reviews that say the fabric is light and they seem really easy to wear. Hard to fathom but there it is!

I suspect my D will just toss everything in the cold water wash together, as she normally does and it comes with a 1 year warranty. If you want to make your own pack they gave a different code where you can save up to 30%.
Just curious…what are these things made from that they don’t stain?? Like every other kind of underwear would!

Given the spare set of clothes I had to keep in the trunk of my car, the ruined clothing, mattresses, bedding, etc., I can see the benefit of these. Multiple products worn at the same time didn’t work; I hope to heaven I’m done.
Not to give TMI, but I could go from basically nothing to gushing like a stuck pig literally in minutes with no time to get to a rest room
I’d never give them as a gift, however. Maybe just a purchase along with other underwear as needed.
Yes, I could go from nothing to very, very heavy flow in no time and it was hugely embarrassing. I would have appreciated this–probably as a little something from a loved one but not a ‘main gift.’ You’re right that underwear is like getting a vacuum cleaner or pot or other utilitarian but not “fun” or exciting gift.

I have some Dear Kates and like them very much. I don’t use them as my only protection but rather as a supplement., and so far, they have worked well and as advertised.
Thanks @bearpanther. Have you tried any other brands as well? It’s hard to get a feel for differences among brands. Also, do you have full lining or mini? Are they true to size or do they run small?

I want to go on the record…I think this is a great product…but I do NOT think it’s something I would send to my nieces for Christmas…or give to my daughter to open Christmas morning.
Himom if you are having trouble teasing out the brandnames and what’s what…how,do you know that YOUR choice would even be consistent with what the recipient might want? Maybe they love Thinkx. Maybe they hate Dear Kates.
I just think this is a personal decision…and a personal item…not something to give as a Christmas gift.
Let us know how the recipients like these garments, please. It’s helpful to know unbiased opinions about these new products. It’s much easier to get unbiased reviews about tech wear jackets and such than thus intimate personal stuff. I’m glad these products exist!
I had these “sanitary panties” as they were called while growing up and I am just over 60 years old. As I recall, they were made by the Japanese lingerie maker Wacoal. They helped but not completely foolproof.
Later, when I started wearing tampons, I also had maxi pads at night for protection and regular pads during the day. I could not imagine just wearing tampons without extra protection on heavier days.Even if they didn’t leak onto your clothes, it is a big turnoff to see blood in your panties.
As I recall, I stopped wearing Wacoal sanitary panties because the pads could not stick to the liquid proof material.
^^I was one of those crazies who went out and bought out the super heavy duty Rely (think that’s what they were called)…before they pulled them off the shelf. The only thing that worked without “extra” protection if you knew you were going to go several hours without the ability to do a quick change. So sad they turned out to be associated with Toxic Shock Syndrome for some people. Those things really worked. Have to admit this underwear is a really cool idea especially under jeans or pants…I never could stand pads. Don’t think I’d give them as a Christmas present…
@cbreeze, I can’t find much detail about the a Japanese sanitary panties but believe those don’t have the absorbency of these new ones and are solely designed to prevent or minimize leaks. The new ones being advertised in the US claim to absorb as much as 1-5 tampons, depending on the brand AND be leak proof.
HA! I am behind the times. In my life, and my kid’s, period panties means the black underwear that won’t show stains. Maybe I should wait until I am home to google…
@HImom, I have not used any other brands.
I found that sizing was pretty accurate based on my pant size and hip measurement. I think I have all mini liner styles. The liner is black so you don’t see any stains, even if the underwear is a different color. I liked that they were made in the USA but it was hard for me to get over the price point. Luckily they did have the 20% off for new customers and they do have some great sales too. I wash in the machine on gentle or perm press, and even though they recommend air dry, I have put them in the dryer on low and they have been fine.
I don’t just wear them during my cycle, though–the material is made for sport/exercise use as well and so I often wear them on running days as they are sweat wicking.
Just as an aside–these can also be good if you happen to be someone who leaks with a laugh or a sneeze…
Just to clarify, my D’s won’t be opening these on Christmas Day. Way too personal in mixed company. They can have them immediately.
I would given these to D when it’s just her and I. She does get embarrassed, even around Hvand her brother, but fortunately less so around me.
@HImom, I just googled Wacoal sanitary panties and sure enough they still make them but of course they are much better now with liners even. Saw many types in google images. I remember my mother bought a few of them for me to wear back in the dark ages when we needed to use sanitary belts. So glad I don’t have to worry about it now.
