Ladies - what's you facial regimen

I use acupuncture on my face. I’ve heard a lot of Taiwanese actresses are doing similar thin from my one of my acupunctures. I’m asking for somebody who doesn’t have much down time. Does it hurt? Especially on the face which is very sensitive?

Interesting, acupuncture on the face. I have thought about doing that for TMJ, but the needle thing seems kind of scary. Yikes!

The doctor did three little test strips on my neck. It felt like a light electric shock. The first one, I jumped a bit, by the third one, it didn’t really bother me. Not painful, but a lot of little zaps. I don’t know. But they do like to do a small test on you first, to see how your skin reacts, so maybe you could get that done and see how it goes.

However, do you have a lot of dark spots that you need to get rid of? Otherwise, I don’t know that I’d do the light therapy, as it is expensive and there are other options.

I recently switched over to Kiehl’s, very gentle and very effective also. I do use Aveeno foaming face wash but I now use the Kiehl’s gentle make-up remover, Kiehl’s anti-wrinkle cream with spf 30 and after I finish my drugstore Neutrogena mositurizer with SPF 30, I am going to try the Kiehl’s moisturizer also.

Busdriver, I don’t usually like to admit that I can be vain about my appearance, but I just had Juvederm injections yesterday, for the first time – one syringe for each side, treating both the naso-labial folds and the smaller lines extending downwards from the corners of my mouth, which the doctor referred to with the rather disgusting appellation “marionette lines.” (I had suddenly started noticing both sets of lines a lot more in the last couple of months, and wasn’t happy with them, since I’m so used to people telling me that I look younger than my age, that the realization that I’m starting to look older bothered me more than it probably should have. So even though I’ve never been one for purely cosmetic procedures, I found a place near where I live, and went for a consultation. )

I won’t pretend that the needle sticks were painless, but it was all over in about a minute. After doing the injections, the doctor spread the stuff along the lines by putting his thumb in my mouth and using his forefinger to smooth it out! I put ice on it when I got home, and I don’t see any bruising, but there are noticeable red spots at several of the injection sites which I hope go away soon so I can see what I look like – right now, it looks kind of like my skin is broken out. I’m pretty sure that the lines are going to be much less noticeable, but I’ll let you know how it turns out! (The only drawback – besides the expense – is that it’s not permanent; you have to repeat it a couple of times a year if you want to maintain the look. There are other kinds of filler that last longer, but they’re more expensive, and aren’t reversible if you have a bad reaction like lumpiness, whereas Juvederm can be reversed. By the way, Restylane is the same as Juvederm, just a different brand.)

I’ve had both laser resurfacing and chemical peels (TCA).The peels gave me great results but there is 3-4 day period when your skin starts to peel off and you think you made a huge mistake (especially the first time). If you can get through this, you are home free. Also, the peels aren’t painless–it stings. The stronger the solution the more it stings.

@Bromfield2, I’ve had the chemical peels, and I know what you’re talking about, except for me it seems to last a bit longer. It is pretty bad, and I wrap a scarf around my face when I go out, even in the summer! I can go for short periods (about 10 minutes) in the grocery store, where I douse water on my face and run in, but any longer and people start staring at you like you have leprosy! Worth it, though, you just have to find a good time to hide out.

@DonnaL, I don’t think of that as vain at all. You don’t strike me as the type to preen in mirrors every time that you pass by, spending your life applying the perfect makeup and shopping for designer clothes…you know what I mean. But of course you care about how you look, and you have something that bothers you, so you’re doing something about it. Good for you! And what you did is probably my first priority. I can live with the other stuff, but I have those same issues, and that is what really bugs me. I would love to hear exactly how everything goes for you. Yes, it is expensive, but if it works, it’s worth it. My dermatologist said it could last up to 18 months, so maybe you won’t have to do it too often. Plus, she says it goes away gradually, and not all at once (thank God). Did you get one vial, or two? My dermatologist recommended two, so hopefully it would last for awhile.

Thanks, busdriver. I don’t know how many vials it was (I kept my eyes closed!); all I know is that it was two syringes full – one on each side.

Sounds like two. They told me it would be $650 per vial, so if it was was about $1300, it would have been two. Please keep us updated, I am very interested in how this goes for you. Good luck!!!

Fascinating!!!

I have laugh lines. Always have a smile on my face, am I supposed to do anything about it? Acupuncture doesn’t work with deep line. Only fine lines.

I think it depends upon whether you like them (or don’t hate them, at least), DrGoogle.

That’s an interesting study, @BunsenBurner. Sounds like juvederm is very successful for most people, and for the issues me and Donna are talking about, that they should use the Ultra Plus, which can still have good results after a year. If I get it done, I’m going to make sure they use that, or go to a different clinic that does.

Busdriver, I paid about $1000 for the two syringes, so I’m pretty sure it was two vials. (I’m sure that all these places charge what they think the market can bear, and the one I used is near where I live in Washington Heights, which is not a particularly affluent neighborhood, generally speaking – although it gets more and more gentrified as time passes.)

Sounds like two for sure, that would have been very expensive if it was just one. Plus, seems like if you only need one, why bother?

I think Id rather spend the same amount of money on a vacation.
More memorable photos.

I’m going to add lemon to my daily water and wash routine. Hopefully the acid with reduce oil.

“I think Id rather spend the same amount of money on a vacation.

However, if you think you look so bad that you don’t even want to look at the photos, might be worth it. It’s all a balance between how people spend their money. Would be easier if the $$ was unlimited.

I think people should do what they want with their money. It’s just last time I spent $400 on something from Nordstrom it was never used. So I know now not to spend big bucks on anything cosmetic. It’s not for me.

Yikes, $400 on cosmetics that you don’t use, that would be annoying. I loathe shopping and will spend very little on clothes and cosmetics. However, I am willing to spend money on things with more lasting results.

I have been using this in the last few months. It is a face mask made in Korea. It’s less than a $1 per mask. I use it daily or every other day before I go to sleep. I keep them in the fridge so it’s nice and cool when I put it on.

I like the Shisiedo products, especially the eye product.

They were closing out this brand at the grocery store, but makeup alley says they also have ot at Ross.
I bought the eye cream, serum and firm, after reading the reviews, and its pretty nice.
