Lady calls cops on Hispanic mom because her "baby is in pain"

Here we go again (there’s video):

So a mother and child are sitting in a car with the AC blasting, and Ms. Busybody is all worried that the baby is too hot? What does Ms. Busybody think is happening when that baby is in that same carseat with that same AC with that same sunshine on a long drive? Are babies expiring all the time when Mom and Dad are trying to drive to Grandma’s or to the beach? What an idiot.

Did the police come eye-rolling into the scene?

Racist old biddy.

Old lady didn’t like being a f…b…every time young whipper snapper opened her mouth. And admittedly being pointed ignored when she first tapped on the window. I don’t know why people act like this on either side.

Well, we don’t really know how she reacted at the beginning, other than the crude imitation of the other woman. It sounds like the mother might have been dozing also.

Personally, I probably would have rolled down the window and said “Can I help you?” I would have said I’m here, she’s sleeping, the A/C is on, no need to worry, and rolled up the window. If the person proceeded to accuse me of child abuse I would have gotten angry too. Many of us have described being accosted by busybodies when our kids were little. And if the busybody then acted as if my HUSBAND was rational and I was not, well, I would have lost it.

Once the observer had come up to the car and realized that the child’s mother was in the car with her, she should have turned around and gotten in her car and left without any window tapping or other interference.

Actually we do know the beginning because if you read the article the girl says that she ignored the lady tapping on her window hoping she’d just go away. She started filming when it appeared the lady was calling the police.
And @doschicos – you don’t know if she’s racist or not. The girl kept saying “you’re talking to my H because he’s white” all the while calling her names. And the lady replied, “No, I’m talking to him because he is acting sane.”
(Old lady was a nut but it seems like a situation that could have been easily avoided–I would’ve just moved the car to get away from her…)

There seems to me a legitimate argument to be made for ignoring strangers tapping on your car window, especially if you have an infant or child with you. In the circumstances in which the mother found herself, I’d be extremely suspicious, because of my concern for the child. I might call and report her. I’d definitely be calling my husband to come out asap. Noticing children alone in cars is potentially life saving. That’s not what happened. To me the stranger is the potential threat here. Just because old white women may look harmless doesn’t mean they are. For all I know she’s a carjacker. Decades ago I lived in an area where women with small children were being targeted by groups of carjackers. They were easily distracted.

" I roll down the window and she says the baby is in the sun. She threatens to call the cops if I don’t move my car. I know my husband will be out any minute since we’re only there for a few minutes. I then told her to mind her own business and that’s when I started recording."

She engaged the woman, she didn’t just ignore her.

I stick by my comment that the old lady is racist. One doesn’t need to use racist language to be racist.

I would’ve called the cops and said “there’s an oldwoman threatening me and my child.”

Old lady is nuts and way out of line but the only one bringing up race is the mom.

Well, I just can’t help wondering if the old lady would have tapped on the glass if the white husband was in the car with the child.

Maybe she’s sexist and wouldn’t have tapped on the window if the baby was with the father? Maybe I’ve spent too much time in Texas and Floridia but I’d don’t think I’d notice if a woman sitting inside a car was white or hispanic. When I moved to MA I had several people think I was hispanic just because I had a tan!

I wouldn’t roll down my window. Just the other day, a couple of blocks from where my D lives in Manhattan, a guy approached a car where a mom (who sounded like she was from England or Australia from her accent) was sitting with her toddler. The guy had a knife and tried to carjack her. She got out of the car and scared him off but it could have been a tragedy. I would have just leaned on my horn and called 911.

If I approached a car and saw a parent in it with the child, I would just keep walking. I mean, didn’t she hear the engine running if the AC was on?

I might be concerned if I saw a mother in a car with a baby, if the mother seemed unresponsive. It’s not unknown for a parent to take opioids and pass out, while they are with their young children in a car. I might have looked closer. But once I realized the mother was just napping or lying there quietly with eyes closed (maybe she was listening to music, how would I know) I’d make an apologetic gesture and move along.

However, in this case there is no evidence the mother wasn’t napping.

I read another account of this story. The “baby” is two years old and the couple’s 6 year old was also in the car.

Watched the video. Both women are rude and frankly were acting nutty.

Well, if I’m sitting in my car minding my own business with my kids who are perfectly content and you start calling the police on me, don’t expect me to be polite to you.

I’m always surprised when folks want to blame the victim.

The old woman is TOTALLY out of line. The witch must have seen the adult and another child in the car. So what if the mother was dozing, which none of us knows. The correct thing to do, if the old woman was that concerned, and if indeed it appeared that maybe all inside the car were asleep, and if there was genuine concern, would have been to tap on the window to see if the mother woke up. That should have been the end of the story. The airconditioning would have been obvious the second the mother rolled down the window. The window on the front passenger side was clearly open, so the mother clearly opened it. The old woman is a rude busybody and yes, I think she probably was racist. What was her incentive for calling police? She had no problem talking to the husband, even though she couldn’t see him “under all that hair.” Complete cow.

Apologies to real cows who don’t want to associate with that horrid woman.
