Laptops for UVA

Does UVA require you to purchase a laptop specifically for UVA, like William & Mary does?

No. If you want to buy one through the school, you’re limited to a small number of systems (keeps it simpler for them rather than offering you options), but you’re free to bring whatever computer you choose (be it something you already have or buy anywhere else).

You can get whatever computer you wish. Personally, I’d recommend not buying one from UVA, as you can find better deals elsewhere.

unless you’re like me and you break your stuff a lot - then the warranty uva gives you is unbeatable. They’ll fix anything for free.

Dell carries the same warranty (of course assuming you select the apropriate option at time of purchase)… and is significantly cheaper.

umm the 4 year warranty at dell is like a $400 option so its not really cheaper.

Their warranty option isn’t cheaper, but their computers are. Using a $750 e-coupon that I found on notebookforums.com, I got a $1650 configuration for $900. The same configuration was being sold but Cavalier Computers for ~$2000.
