thanks for all the tips, everyone!

Have a great trip (with no tripping!).

The freeway interchanges from the airport to Park City and back are counterintuitive, so be careful to watch the signs.

From the airport: head east on I-80, staying in the left lanes. In about 2-3 miles take I-15 south. In a few more miles you’ll want to be in the right lanes to take I-80 eastbound again. Be careful not to get prematurely stuck in the right lane on I-15 as it becomes an exit only lane for an exit you won’t want to take. Once you’re on I-80 east (now for the 2nd time) it’s smooth sailing to PC.

Returning to the airport has requires a couple of cautions. As you come into SLC on I-80 westbound, prepare to take I-15 northbound. Logic would tell you to be in the right lanes, but it isn’t logical, stay left to cross over on a flyover. Going north on I-15, be prepared to exit on I-80 westbound in a few miles. This will be a right lane exit, immediately after a three lane exit (2 lanes are exit only) that you’ll want to avoid.

The weather has been beautiful. Snowed a bit Friday, sunny and 38 degrees now. Forecast is for warm weather for a few days, cooling through the week maybe with snow.

Enjoy your trip, and let me know if I can help.

Sherpa

Thanks, as always, teriwtt and sherpa!

A friend of older s’s might join us out there (they are discussing it as I type) so we might be shopping for more discount lift tickets!!! Also, any suggestions for a good restaurant not far from the airport? We will have a few hres netween when DH flies in Weds and when older s gets back from his job interview (yes- a job interview in the middle of our vacation!)

For dinner near the airport, go to downtown SLC. 5-10 minutes away, depending on the restaurant. If you give me a food type, I’ll give you a recommendation.

Sherpa-
We like anything. Seriously. The only thing I don’t eat is liver, and the only thing my H doesn’t eat is beets. Probably would not pick Mexican, but anything else is great. We will be dressed very casual, so prefer a casual restaurant… Any place that is a locals favorite?

If you like seafood there’s the Market Sreet Grill at 48 W. Market Street. I can’t think of the name of it now, but in the same block of Market St. there is very good sushi bar. I’ll post a few more as I think of them.

The ultimate locals joint in PC is El Chubasco. Generous portions of authentic Mexican food, great salsa bar, very casual, no waiters, order at the counter, they bring you your food. I don’t know the address, just ask anyone to point you to it.

Best deal I know of is the special at Ahhh Sushi, located just off I-80 at the Jeremy Ranch exit (#143 I think) on the S side of the freeway in a strip mall. From 5-6 every day but Wednesday all appetizers and sushi rolls are 1/2 price. The sea bass is melt in your mouth perfect and the oysters shooters are great, too. Full bar service.

How funny, Sherpa! I printed a list of restaurants near the airport from “mytravelgguide.com” and put a star by Market St Grill! Didn’t see Ahhh sushi, but we love sushi, so thats a great suggestion. thanks! Figures the night we’ll be eating in town is a Weds :(

Sorry I wasn’t more clear. Ahhh Sushi was meant as a Park City recommendation, not SLC. The Market St. Grill should be good for Wed., but if you might want sushi, park at Market Street Grill and walk 1/2 a block east, same side of the street to check out the sushi place there, then choose between the two. You can’t go wrong either way.

So far, so good, BUT…

I just typed a long post, but lost internet connection!! Arggh. To recap, yesterday went smoothly, and we got in 2 hrs of skiing after arrival (which is free with boarding pass and a form! Yay!). However, it is very windy today (upper lifts may be closed) and older S flies out tonight for a job interview tomorrow. Bigger concern is for his return flights (no a direct flight) and DHs flight in tomorrow night (they are scheduled for late flights) as the forecast is for a significant spring storm!!! AAGGHHH.

Sherpa,
What is the likelihood they will close SR 224 from the highway to PC?? I assume the highway will be pretty easy to plow, but am a bit concerned about both the flights and the access to/from the airport. Anyone have connections with the weather gods?? I really could use a hassle-free trip!

Zero liklehood. I’ve never seen it happen. It can turn to gridlock around 4-6 p.m., though, as the resorts empty and the commuters go home. Though a longer distance, the quicker way out of town when 224 is backed up is to take SR 248 (AKA Kearns Blvd) east out of PC to highway 40, go north on 40 2 miles to I-80, then west to SLC. What time is your son’s flight?

Yes, it is very windy today. Last night it was howling. Usually a sign that a snowstorm is coming soon which, for your family, could be a good thing and/or a bad thing.

One of our Park City trips was met with an amazing blizzard with record snowfall. When we could finally get out, the locals were saying they had never seen weather like it, before. I was just glad we got provisions before it was too bad.

The weather gods can be cruel.

Sorry, but I had to laugh. You ain’t in the South anymore! Never seen or heard of it closing.

Last time we skiied utah, we had a late season storm and they closed the road back to snowbird. The road to Park City isn’t a mountain pass, so figured it was less likely. So if DH and DS can make it back to SLC (ds’s flight is late and weather may be bad) we should be able to get back to PC. They are saying the mtns could get 1-2 feet of snow!

Sherpa- we are gonna aim for that Japanese restaurant at the exit near the outlet mall tonight. Wanna join us?

Sure, I’ll be in touch shortly.

I’m so excited. I’m about to meet one of my CC friends.

^^^ And a fine one, at that!

Looking forward to another cc meet-up! And thanks, MOWC-- same back at ya

Wonderful dinner with Sherpa, and a truly wonderful restaurant selection. Thanks!!! DS’s flight was delayed about 20’ so we had plenty of time, despite the very new and very slow waiter. Thanks again for your incredible kindness.

Bummer, Kelowna! Would love to have met you. We are here though Easter Sunday. Will you be back?
