While statistically if you look at the numbers, that relatively few law enforcement officers are serious hurt or killed on duty in any given year (and obviously that depends where the officer works) they are still facing that every time they go out there on patrol. In NJ and in most states state police patrol alone, cover a large area and here in NJ that can cover anything from patrolling the many highways (that have a lot of traffic), or covering areas that don’t have their own force, or dealing with a way too curious bear and they never know what is facing them. A good number of officers are killed in accidents, getting clipped helping someone broken down by the side of the road is a common one (usually some drunk idiot IME). There are things that I am critical in law enforcement, but in the end many of them are dedicated to doing what is not an easy job and they know there are risks there. Then there is the toll on the family members, especially partners/spouses.

“Pastor Preston Allison said he was driving in the area when he saw the disturbance and stopped. He told ABC7 that officers were trying to de-escalate the situation when people began attacking them. That’s when the officer was hurt.”

Here we go. Things could get out of hand in the coming days, weeks and months. My son is on duty Tuesday night, then Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
