law vs eng. research internship

okay so I got two internships lined up for a program that runs at my school which allows me to do an educational internship. One is at Columbia U in the biomedical wing with this grad student who is lyk super smart and said he could write me an excellent rec. Considering he is affiliated with JHU and Columbia I do not doubt it. The prob is that I hate the internship as he is making me learn matlab and with no prior programming exp. it just sucks. Also I HATE PROGRAMMING!

The other internship is with the former mayor of my town who just happens to be a top notch immigration lawyer. He has not said anything about a rec but has said that the internship will show me the shoes of a lawyer and it will not include filing or other grunt work.

Question is which one do i do. I do not know what I want be in the future but my resume does point to a medical and engineering fusion if that makes any sense. I would really like a new experience with the law internship but is it worth it to sacrifice the great rec from a super smart grad student? HELPPPPP

Do what you would feel you would enjoy the most. In this case (though only you know yourself the best), it sounds like you would be more satisfied with the law internship.
