lawmaker says he has business degree...really a Sizzler training certificate

Too funny! https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2017/03/02/this-lawmakers-bio-touted-a-business-degree-it-was-actually-a-sizzler-training-certificate/?tid=sm_tw&utm_term=.c44dd8afb122#comments

Pretty sad commentary, too

The legislation that this fellow proposed is identical to legislation proposed late last year in the state of North Carolina - to require “balance” between democrats/republicans in the faculty at state universities. This kind of effort is not going away. I’d think that a better approach might be to ask WHY more professors MIGHT be registered Democrats than registered Republicans.

Is this for real?

Yep

I think when people get caught lying or stealing or whatever the solution is to just say you didn’t mean to deceive anyone or hurt anyone. You see, a lie isn’t a lie unless you were dumb enough to believe it and since I had no idea you would believe it I therefore didn’t really lie to you. I don’t believe science either. The media? A bunch of liars. You can’t believe a word they say. The only person you can trust is me. I am talking in circles because that is the way you are hearing me. If I talk enough gibberish you will eventually get confused and all will be well.

You lost me, @GoNoles85

If this report is in fact real, does Failor think he is helping the situation with this statement? There is actually a Hamburger University in Illinois sponsored by McDonalds. Who knew?

http://mcdonalds.wikia.com/wiki/Hamburger_University

And the citizens of Hamburg, Germany shake their collective heads in disbelief…

Allowing others to be mislead into believing he has college credentials when his basis for doing so are essentially non-existent is crushingly ironic.

Especially considering the hypocrisy of his apparent entitlement to implement an essential political litmus test for college faculty members which not only goes against academic freedom, but is likely to be considered unconstitutional…especially for public college Profs.

Also, using the Prof’s voter registration as a basis for determining political leanings is seriously flawed.

One can register for any party or no party as one pleases without having to prove actual ideological affinity with said party.

Know plenty of friends/acquaintances whose politics are staunchly conservatives who registered themselves as Democrats so they can influence who are the local frontrunners in local/state races and likewise, staunch liberals who registered themselves as Republicans to do the same in states where the GOP is overwhelmingly dominant in local/state races.

Also, how would this work in states where one’s allowed to change one’s voter registration on the day of the election as is the case in NH and where it’s somewhat common for folks* to switch parties at the drop of the hat to vote in a given party’s primary for whatever reason?

  • According to accounts of a relative and several friends who live/grew up in NH.

I’m going to recommend Forbco University for students interested in business. You can get a management degree in 3 months, and bonus, you’ll never have to carry around a meat thermometer ever again. Well done!

“Well done!”

Pun intended? Such effective use of wordplay on this medium is rare.

Well…this lawmaker certainly thinks he’s hot stuff…

Based on a recent thread, perhaps Republicans are more likely to know how to Google, and realize there are far more humanities PhDs than tenure track jobs. Hence, they decide not to enter grad programs in the humanities.

There’s more than just one lying politician at steak here. As I see it–and I apologize if this is dry, aged as I am–the meat of the issue has been over©(l)ooked, and beefore we go any furter, we should grill this guy and others on the free range of media scrutiny.

I’ll bite.

I mean bookmark.

Ya know, if he were smarter, he would’ve just said he studied business. Or management. Or got a 'degree" from a mgt program, leaving it at the spin.

It’s the “degree” that’s part of the problem, though, @lookingforward --all he got was a “certificate.” Of course, the hilarious part is that it was from Sizzler (who knew they were even still around?).

I mean, there are New York strippers with better educations, not to mention tender loins. I say we light a fire under him and rake him over the coals. Something something porterhouse something creamed spinach something something whoa I’m very hungry.

I chewed over what roethlisBURGER has dished out but I just can’t stomach what he’s serving. What’s rendered is not sitting well with me and I don’t find it palatable. On further inspection, bringing politics into it isn’t very kosher.

Saying a 3 month half-baked certificate is equivalent to a 4 year undergraduated degree…even if the individual offering is a bit overdone is like equating:

Ground chuck hamburger meat with a sizzling steak from a respectable inexpensive diner.

American processed cheese food slices with real cheese.

Fast food hamburgers from BK/McDs with those from respectable inexpensivediners, Five Guys, etc.

A former East German Trabant with a Kia/Hyndai

Earning an A+ Computer tech certificate is the equivalent of earning a 4 year degree in MIS or even better, CS.

etc…etc…etc
