Hey!
I’ve been using Niche.com’s “Chance Me” for a while now to see my chances of getting into certain schools. People can vote if I could be a great candidate, an okay candidate, or a not-so-great candidate. People can also comment any suggestions that they have, and a lot of users have been saying that I need more leadership experience.
My question is: how can I obtain leadership experience?
My school has this program called “Peer Transitions” where juniors are “peer leaders” to freshmen. A peer leader’s job is to help their group of freshmen successfully transition into high school since it can be a terrifying, nerve-wracking experience. I applied for the program and am now on the next step to becoming a peer leader, which is a group interview.
Are there any other ways to obtain leadership experience such as conferences or something?
To show leadership, you need to be a leader.
To be a leader, you need to be in a group of people.
What clubs or groups are you in?
The Peer Transitions is one way but I would try to have others.
if you are not in a club, can you form a club/group?
Do you belong to a house of worship? If so, can you start a new program/mission? We had one of our HS students start and lead a “Blessings in a Backpack” program where we provided food for the weekend for kids who are on a free lunch program. Maybe you could start a community service program .

@bopper
I will check that article out, thanks a lot!
I’m in the marching band, but only seniors are eligible for leader positions such as drum major, field lieutenant, and section leader. I really want to become historian! Is that good? Also, I’m a member of JV debate team, French club, and academic decathlon. I’m a member of the girls varsity tennis team too.
I plan to join more clubs next year. Unfortunately, I missed the deadline for Big Brothers, Big Sisters this year, which is something I wanted and still want to do! Along with the Peer Transitions program (which I hope I am a part of) I plan to be a part of my school’s quiz bowl team, which is like trivia club, peer tutoring program, and Action Team, which is like volunteering club. Action Team has a congress, and I really want to be a part of that!
I was thinking of doing something involving my local church, such as teaching young children about God alongside a teacher, but I think that counts as volunteering and not leadership…
Thanks again!
I would look more at mission opportunities at your church…see if you can be a lead on a project.
If you don’t know the options, ask your pastor who the missions team lead is and they will have ample ideas for you. Missions would be more community service.
