Lefties Only: Are you the unstable one in your family?

<p>In the current issue of Molecular Psychiatry, researchers announced the identification of the gene most associated with left-handedness. They also described this particular gene as being linked to certain mental illnesses, including schizophrenia. Not all lefties will develop mental illness, but there is a meaningful statistical number of lefties who will. In a given population of schizophrenics, more will be lefties than would normally be expected in the general population. The researchers claim that the left-handedness gene is passed from father to son. I do not know how female lefties fit into this plan.</p>

<p>Anyways, if you are a leftie, are you the one in the family that would be voted most likely to be crazy?</p>

<p>I’m not left-handed, but two members of my immediate family are, and they’re definitely the most stable ones out of all five of us.</p>

<p>My sister (lawyer) and I (physician) are left handed; I think we’re more “stable” than our right handed (film director) brother. That’s not fair; the three of us are equally not-schizophrenic. We had too many left handed people in my medical school class for the number of left handed desks in the auditorium.</p>

<p>i’m left handed and it depends on your definition of unstable. If to you pretending as if everything is a joke makes a person unstable, I guess I am. Other than that, no. The person you are looking for would be my mom (right handed)</p>

<p>I’m left handed, and I think I’m as stable as the rest of my right-handed family. But I’m the one with the “artistic” touch really. And I’m also the most unique out of all of them for some reason. lol. I’m jsut different in alot of ways.,.can’t really explain it…</p>

<p>I’m a semi-lefty. I do some things left handed and some right handed, though I write left handed. Anyway, I might be insecure, but I’m definitely not schizo.</p>

<p>lefty right here ( the only one in my family:interm.) i’m the most intelligent out of my siblings ( not bragging). and i read somewhere that left handed people generally are more intelligent. don’t know if it’s true though, however, there is some evidence.</p>

<p>I’m a lefty and I consider myself to be very stable. Why would you even bring this topic up in a post? I’m insulted. No, depressed. No, insulted. Well, I’m not sure what I am. But everybody seems like they’re against me, including the other posters here. I don’t think I want to be on this board anymore. Yeah, that’s right! Well, maybe. I have to go take a valium.</p>

<p>Ummm, just kidding. :slight_smile: But it is true that a disproportionate number of notable individuals throughout history – both good and bad – have been left handed. We just think more creatively.</p>

<p>I’m a lefty! So are my brother and sister. I’m a bit “out there” (in a good way ;)) lol, but I’m not “unstable.”</p>
