Lehigh Class of 2028 Official Thread

Kid admitted with Trustees Scholarship. IDEAS program.
1520 SAT, high rigor, 4.0 UW

After seeing robust discussions on yield protection on other threads, I don’t think we can say one way or another if a kid was yield protected.

I doubt yield protection! You do realize Lehigh is very difficult to get into, right?

I think if someone would like to believe their child was waitlisted due to yield protection I don’t see why commenting otherwise is productive

For whatever it is worth…. My D21 applied to 12 schools including two T20. She ultimately got in everywhere except Lehigh which was a waitlist. She accepted her position on WL because at time Lehigh was her top choice of those she’d heard from. Was actually her third choice overall. Quite early after WL acceptance she received an email stating if she’d commit to go they’d accept her but had to commit before they changed her portal. By then she’d gotten into her two top choices (both T20, acceptance rates of 8% and 11%). So…made us wonder !

Can’t find anything

Lehigh Fest is on April 13 and April 20. Details are on the admitted student events page - Admitted Student On-Campus & Virtual Events | Lehigh University. You can register using the links under " Upcoming On-Campus Events and Virtual Spotlight Sessions" section on that page.

Daughter was also waitlisted with high stats. Chosen as Richmond Scholar and finalist for BK scholarship at UMD,Finalist for full tuition at Lafayette and finalist for Presidential at BC. Praying for BC since FA was awful. Good luck and congrats on all the great options.

Other than accepting your spot on the waitlist, should we be sending or doing anything else?

You should strongly consider writing and sending a Letter of Continued Interest to Lehigh, which would have any new major updates since submitting your initial application (i.e. new awards, or major position changes)

There really hasn’t been any new achievements or done anything other than maintaining over a 4.5 first 2/3rds of her senior year.

I would still write a Letter of Continued Interest even if you don’t have any significant updates. The best way to increase your chances is to show interest. I would include in the letter why it would be a great fit and some things specific to Lehigh.

From Lehigh’s waitlist FAQ -

How can I increase the odds that I am admitted from the waitlist?

The best course of action is to connect directly with your region’s admissions counselor via email. We do not need additional recommendation letters and interviews are not available, but you are welcome to update your counselor on grades, achievements, or your continued interest in Lehigh.

If anyone knows, when looking at the Financial Aid Office for Financial Counselors, it has them sorted by letters:

Does anyone know how students are sorted for each of these counselors? I cant see anything telling me whether its by first name, last name, or state.

But that person isn’t wrong. Yield protection is very unlikely at a top school like Lehigh.

I would disagree. I think yield protection is likely. Lehigh along with schools like Case Western are often used as “safety” schools by top candidates. Lehigh and similar schools want to be the bride not the bridesmaid. The fact they take such a high percent of their class from early decision only reinforces the idea of yield protection and if you look at their CDS, Demonstrated Interest is important to them.
