Lehigh Waitlist 2024

@Yocco2 Not true about merit only offered by mid level schools. Both Case and U of R are ranked higher than Lehigh and both offered me large merit. As far as other peers…Bucknell also offered large merit.

This fact is probably causing Lehigh alums’ heads to explode!

@Mwfan1921 Very true. In my day I would not consider these schools top-tier schools. Kind of reinforces what I said about Lehigh falling in the rankings to the point they might need to begin offering merit just to compete with those types of schools. However, Lehigh obviously still considers itself good enough that it does not need to offer merit regardless of rankings, and @Luckyjade2024 is merely proving their point by choosing them over the “higher ranked” ones who offered merit.

@yocco2 I don’t understand what point I’m proving? I happen to love the program, and the school. It was a better fit for myself, including geographically.

It’s obvious you are upset with Lehigh for putting your Son on the waiting list. but don’t disparage other students for choosing Lehigh. I was deferred by one school, then TO…and WL at another, but I won’t talk badly about them.

@Luckyjade2024 I was not disparaging anyone, just the opposite. I merely meant the point you’re proving is that maybe they might not need to offer merit to attract quality students (like you) since you ultimately chose them over other schools that did offer you merit.

Just to put things into perspective, I am actually quite passionate about Lehigh. As both an alum and student parent I have loads of history, personal experience with, and loyalty to my alma mater. And while there are a lot of things to love about Lehigh, there are many things they can do better. When the administration does things that in my view harms the school or its reputation, I get upset about it, and I have every right to. It is personal to me. You will understand this some day when you are a proud graduate - perhaps even sooner. I wish you all the best - Lehigh is a phenomenal school. Take advantage of all that it offers.

I did not realize you were an alum. that puts a totally different perspective on everything you are saying. My apologies.

Son got off of another WL this week and has decided to accept that offer, so another Lehigh WL spot has opened up. Lehigh seems like a wonderful place, though, and he was happy to have gotten an admissions offer --good luck to one and all!

does anyone know if lehigh has been releasing more waitlist acceptances or if there are still spots left?

My guess is admissions has been busy with transfer students, whose decisions were just released yesterday or today. Lehigh also started taking people off waitlist almost immediately after regular decisions were released in late March, but I haven’t heard of any new rounds of waitlist acceptances since prior to commitment day. I’m sure they are digesting the numbers and trying to come up with a strategy depending on the the total number of commits so far. The pandemic has also no doubt thrown a huge monkey wrench of uncertainty into their equation, and they probably now also need to determine how many of their commits might not even show up in fall depending on how things play out (people considering gap years, waiting to see if physical campus opens in fall, getting taken off waitlists at other schools, etc.). Since their applications were already down 21% this year and they beefed up their waitlist, I think you will see additional waves of acceptances coming out soon, but I am just surmising. However, since waitlist is need-aware, don’t hold your breath if you require substantial financial aid.

I withdrew from Lehigh because I got called off Tufts waitlist…I am sure more of this is happening this year than ever before.

oh wow, this was super detailed! thank you for letting me know

One of my kids was WL for Lehigh. Another was accepted. Both needed a lot of financial aid. Neither attended.

Which one had the objectively stronger qualifications? The one who was a WL. Top 5% rank at very competitive HS, 780 SAT Math II, 1490 SAT, 4.0, a dozen APs with high scores, and state-level recognition for extra curricular activities. Sometimes it’s hard to understand how these colleges make decisions.

@Luckyjade2024 Wow! I am shocked you withdrew from Lehigh - you were so enthusiastic about the school, to the point you were promoting it when others disagreed! What is it about Tufts that you prefer?

I’m really happy with my decision. I loved Tufts since I visited in freshman year. Then I did two consecutive summer programs there. I attended every info session in my area as well. I also love being close to Boston.

Tufts was a top choice for me. I was going to ED, but decided to ED to Cornell instead…was given TO offer at Cornell and WL at Tufts.

When I was WL…I committed to Lehigh and got comfortable/happy with my choice. When Tufts called it was a great surprise. It was more about attending Tufts, than a reflection on Lehigh.

The program at Tufts has been around for 3 decades vs a brand new college at Lehigh also factored in during these difficult financial times.

Also Tufts gave me better aid.

I have no doubts at all, school wise and location, Tufts is a great fit.

Hey does anyone think we could get a wave of decisions this week?

@Pringle54 My D received an email Sunday stating they plan to make additional offers off the waitlist. They want you to respond if you are no longer interested in attending. My guess is another round may go out by the end of this week.

Hey thanks, I got that same email and am also expecting another wave by the end of the week. Makes me more confident that you also think so. Thank you.

Just curious if anyone has come off the waitlist since they sent out the email on 5/31?

Also curious. I have not gotten off yet tho.

@Pringle54 D has also heard nothing since the May 31 email, and has updated her admissions counselor with additional achievements multiple times, including final transcript over a week ago. The problem with College Confidential is that after admissions and especially commitment day, traffic dies down to next to nothing, so it is hard to gather meaningful info from this forum after that.

I hope you have committed to another school you feel comfortable with, since the later in summer it gets the less chance they will accept more students. This year could be different since some students might wait until right before the semester starts to see if the fall will be what they envision based on coronavirus precautions. If so, it is possible some might bow out at the last minute, causing higher than usual “summer melt”, prompting more waitlist offers. But by that point, you might already be settled in to your second choice. Usually it is best to assume that is where you will end up anyway. If something ultimately opens up at Lehigh then you will have a real decision to make. Regardless, it will work out. Best of luck!
