Let’s Swap Legacies: Trade Penn dad for Amherst dad

What to do when your DD isn’t a good match for the schools where she has a legacy advantage? Trade with someone else of course! I thought I’d start this thread just for laughs. We may not be able to retroactively reassign parentage based on desired legacy but we can have fun imagining being able to do so. I’ll start:

  1. Looking to replace Penn dad with strong Penn legacy for an Amherst dad with similar legacy strength.

I think there should also be a swap come April, where kids with similar stat profiles can swap acceptances-

If you’re swapping legacies for private schools, couldn’t you also swap state residencies for public schools?

For example, say Student A is from Michigan. His dream school is UCLA, but the out-of-state tuition makes it unaffordable. Maybe he could swap residency with Student B in California, who would love to qualify for in-state tuition in Ann Arbor.

My son had a significant NYU engineering scholarship won as part of a CS competition. Wish we could give it to our friends who have a kid going there next year.

Then you would have numerous NJ parents/students trying to trade for some other state residency but getting no takers.

Someone can have my Wisconsin residency. Wasted on mine aside from one grad degree with high fees regardless.

I would have happily traded VA residency for legacy status at certain privates.

On a related note, should I make my daughter feel guilty for marrying a man who graduated from the same university? This isn’t helpful in terms of their future kids’ legacy status (but perhaps by then, the legacy preference will be extinct).

At least she got her MBA at a different school, but I don’t know whether that counts.

How about a trade of Stanford legacy for someone who will guide my PIA rising junior son through the college app process? And signicant Stanford legacy if you let him live with you through the process. Takers?

Will trade North Carolina residency for a mom/aunt type near Hobart & William Smith. It’s soooo far from us, but seems perfect. Ugh.

Anyone can have my kids’ Princeton legacy - it turned out to be worthless!

We are keeping fingers crossed baby kid will someday get a degree from one of the two large state schools just like everyone in Seattle (except those Amazombies on H1B visas)! She is the black sheep in the family, lol. Everyone else is a Husky. Go Dawgs. :o3

Well, neither of our kids wanted to attend any sus which any other family member attended. S chose the U that D decided to follow S and apply to. Since H’s U and all of mine were state Us, no legacy status anyway.

At this point, no idea if either kid will have the interest or funds to be “legacies” at their U. It is a pricey private that gets big $$$$ donations.
