I thought I had found the Holy Grail of regular (not tube) mascaras! I had been using IT cosmetics Superhero and thought it was the best and used for several years. Then I tried their Blowout and Wow! It did blow all others out of the water.
I used it the 2 years and they’ve discontinued it! Apparently it was a collaboration with Drybar, so maybe the contract was up. Lots of unhappy buyers!
so, I’m back to the Superhero, but it doesn’t seem so super anymore in comparison. I’m on the hunt. I’ve tried 2 drugstore L’Oréal brands with great reviews that are worthless.
I was using L’Oréal panorama and it’s the best of a lot of meh
I tried the tower 28 and it was great at first. But became really thick and goopy very fast. I tried the thrive but was underwhelmed.
Lancôme makes a good mascara especially with their primer but it’s expensive for mascara. I will buy when there’s a 28 days of beauty at ulta. Regular price is too much for me.
I will be reading and see if there are better options also
I liked the IT blowout also. Sorry to hear it’s been discontinued
I’m allergic to something in non-hypoallergenic mascara. I like both Ilia Limitless Lash and Honest Extreme Volume. Both recommendations came from Sarah James, a blogger/influencer in the natural/clean makeup products space. Her favorite mascara right now is Sweed Cloud Mascara, which I haven’t tried yet but will probably order a tube when I run out of Ilia.
I have used Clinique since my first job after college. But last year I decided it was too expensive (and they’ve raised the prices on everything since then– crazy prices) so I’ve been on the hunt. I have various allergies and sensitivities, so the Clinique worked great for me.
I have had luck with Sephora’s own brand but I think they just changed the formulation and it now goes on very gloppy. It’s non-irritating and inexpensive (they run sales on their own label all the time) but it takes too long to apply to make it look non-smudgey.
So I’m following this thread with interest. I may need to bite my tongue and just go back to Clinique High Impact which only needed one swipe to look presentable and never irritated…. Anyone with a non-scented, non-irritating suggestion come on down!
This is what I use on my top lashes. I use Clinique bottom lash on my bottom lashes. It’s a very tiny brush. I used to have another Clinique that I loved to layer on my upper lashes if I wanted extra length, but they changed the formula - boo! I hate it when cosmetic companies do that! There seems to be a rash of product reformulations lately.
I do like some of the Lancome formulas but find I have to put quite a few layers on the get the length I want. They don’t blob though, which is good.
I’ve probably mostly used Lancôme over the decades, and that’s what I’d recommend. My DIL both use Lancôme, but we use different ones. She uses Idole, and I use Definincils (sp?) I’ve used some Clinique, including lash doubling. I tried an inexpensive tubing mascara many years ago when we had a thread on it here, but that didn’t last long.
This is the one I switched to after using thrive for a while. I like it more than thrive, and more than some of the others I’ve tried.
I use Estée Lauder double wear on my bottom lashes - it’s the only one that doesn’t smudge there on me. (I don’t use it on my top lashes because I feel it doesn’t lengthen them enough.)
I swear by Trish McEvoy tubing mascara. There are 2 versions - thickening and lengthening - and I use both. I start with the thickening mascara on both top and bottom lashes. Then I go back over the top lashes with the lengthening tube. It adds a lot of instant length. I think the actual mascara formulation is the same in both tubes but the applicator brushes are different. It doesn’t budge all day and washes off very easily.
I’ve never tried the gold tube, and I don’t think it’s tubing mascara. High Volume is the thickening version, Lash curling is for length. Again, I think the only difference between the 2 is the applicator wand. The packaging looks the same other than one is matte and one is glossy. I can easily tell which one I grabbing when getting ready.
They have lasted quite a while for me. As with all mascara, I think there is a sweet spot of when they go on the easiest. At first the product is kind of thin, then it hits a perfect point before getting a little thick.
I also use Trish McEvoy tubing mascara. I’ve tried other tubing mascaras, trying to replicate it, but nothing works as well for me. I’ll scrimp on something else to keep using TM.
I’ve never tried using the lengthening and thickening together as @GRITS80 suggests but may have to try that.
