<p>I’ve looked through tons of these forums, and the brilliance of some of these student is starting to worry me about my own success, and its comparison to theirs. Yeah, I’ve had many people tell me, “You’re african and that’s a great hook.” Yet, it saddens me that I might have to resort to that hook to get noticed. I’m dumbfounded on what i can do to get into the universities i aspired to attend for so long. And no, I don’t judge colleges by prestige, in case you were wondering. A couple months ago, I thought i had the greatest shot at UPenn, WashU and Cornell. Now, it seems like the greatest reach possible. I’m half filipino, half eritrean, attend a brand new high school in Toronto, Canada and put my soul into whatever I do, no matter how insignificant it may seem to others. Although I have a great GPA, 96 on a 100 point scale, a junior on the varsity soccer and badminton team, places where I feel at home, I feel that i’m not good enough. I’m currently on the verge on creating a charity with my friend within our school, which will not only create new found opportunities for our fellow students to speak out and be interactive, but we would wholeheartedly donate all proceeds for the benefit to our school. I also volunteer for the UHN ( university health network, for the Red Cross and for the Canadian Cancer Society. As you bright-minded people can guess ( no sarcasm intended ) i dream to enter the medicine field, and aspire to become a cardiovascular surgeon. I know i shouldn’t jump to far ahead in life, but a man can dream. My SAT’s are coming up in a couple weeks, I have a hunch that i’m going to do really well, but let’s get real here, do i have any shot at any of these uni’s? </p>
<p>Another question. My family is suffering from our low income. If you think yours may be low, you’d be surprised comparing your lifestyle to mine. So are there any scholarships that I could enter for Canadian students, because it looks like all the ones mentioned on this site are United States based. I need some means to provide for myself financially, other than the Uni’s financial aid package.</p>
