<p>Because otherwise the game would have taken way too long. Having - twice and + once means that one point is always leaving the game, so the game would actually go somewhere. Otherwise it could have gone on infinitely.</p>

<p>I second alwaysleah, and descuff, if it was only minus once then the game would take like a year to complete</p>
