Do you watch his show?
There might be no doubt that The Lady Gaga performance last night had to drive him to
this decision. Definitely an “I’m getting too old for this moment”

Does he get to choose his replacement or do they replace his show?

I just heard this on the news. Lots of speculation already as to who might replace him. Top contenders seem to be Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart, along with a female whose name escapes me right now. I haven’t watched him in a long time (I just don’t stay up that late anymore, and don’t enjoy watching DVR’d talk shows the following day), but I’m sure he has quite a faithful following.

I bought my first VCR (it was one of the early VHS for over $1,000 and probably cost more than the rest of my “bachelor pad” furniture combined) specifically to tape Dave and watch the next day. A true innovator and great comedic talent, but I do think it’s time for him to retire and let the next generation of late show hosts take over.

i’m sure like Carson (and unlike Leno), A list guests will be clamoring to come on and pay tribute during his farewell season.

Haven’t watched in years, but have some very happy funny memories of pre-parenting days (when I used to stay up late!!) of great Top Ten Losts and Stupid Pet Tricks. :)

I think finding someone to retain Lettermans viewers will be a lot more difficult than replacing Leno with Fallon.
I don’t like most late night stuff, not to mention I don’t stay up that late.
Only rarely do I watch Conan & I don’t like Kimmel. Not a big fan of mean spirited behavior to get a laugh.
Save it for the middle school bus.

I watched an episode earlier this week for the first time in a long time and thought he seemed a little off, like he was either having difficulty finding his words or was just really tired. I really liked him back in the day. Chelsea Handler is the only late night chat show I watch with any regularity now.

I’ve always enjoyed daily monologues, so I Tivo Letterman and Kimmel every night and often watch them back-to-back. It’s amazing to see the difference in someone who is excited, happy as opposed to how Letterman has slowed down; he who would bring his A-game when he had a Julia Roberts or a Bruce Willis or Howard Stern on, but would phone it in the rest of the time.

Letterman’s A-game is better than anyone, tho you might get that five times a year.
I like Chelsea Handler too. Would she work for Letterman, he owns the show.

The NY times this morning speculated on Neal Patrick Harris. He has the talent!
Would you watch him?

I’ve always been a Letterman fan but since I am trying to get to bed earlier I don’t watch much beyond the monologue these days. Sometimes I watch the Colbert report. I stopped watching Leno a few years ago and haven’t seen too much of Jimmy Fallon or Jimmy Kimmel. I always liked Jimmy Fallon on SNL and I think he is super-talented but I haven’t been impressed with what I’ve seen in his monologue because he doesn’t come from the stand-up background that Leno and Letterman come from.
