LGBT at CUA

Is CUA safe for LGBT students, more specifically transgender students? I know there probably aren’t a lot of trans students there but would you say that a lot of transphobia exists there?

DC in general is LGBTQ+ friendly. However, CUA is a non-jesuit catholic institution, meaning that it takes an official stance against gay marriage and their LGBTQ ally club CUAllies is not recognized. If you want the catholic environment in a school that is LGBTQ friendly, I’d suggest looking at Jesuit institutions like Georgetown (also in DC), Fordham, Santa Clara (west coast), SeattleU (west coast). Depaul is also pretty decent.

I know this post is from three years ago. But I can answer this for future LGBTQ+ students. CUA recently fired a professor for inviting an abortion doula to a class that, in the President of CUA words “,normalized transgender births.” So you can have an idea of what they think about people.

You can see the official announcement in which the President of CUA said those discriminatory things in their website. Just google " Concerning Recent Media Stories CUA," and you’ll see it.
