<p>If he is 17, be aware that at 18, he is considered an adult in the US. I gather that schools may not share his grades with you after the age of 18, due to laws governing student privacy under FERPA. FERPA applies to public schools, and post secondary schools, but I am not certain if it applies to boarding schools if they don’t accept federal funds. <p>There is a release he can sign, which will allow schools and colleges to inform you of his progress. If you are entering into a situation in which you will be threatening to withhold tuition, you would be wise to require him to sign such a release, should he attend high school or college in the US.</p>
