Life is short

& Serendipitous.

Seriously- I had been thinking about my earlier ( like 5th grade) aspirations of having my own rock band- I told H I was going to find a vocal class & a guitar.
( I would be happy with being a legend in my own mind) ;)

I have always been pretty serious & intense- but I was looking for something outside my head to do ( because I have so much free time- lol)

Today as it happens a local musician ( who is on my facebook), posted that as he is finished recording his latest record- he is also open to taking on new beginner guitar students!

How cool is that?

I think he lives all the way in West Seattle- but he is a guy after my own heart- according to his wifes FB ( who is also friended), they have a 17 yr old dog <B

Gotta be good peoples.

I challenge everyone- in honor of this upcoming school year- to try something new that they have always wanted to do.

Cut bangs, try raw oysters, read War & Peace.
Then tell us about it :D

I am challenging myself with pro-bono SAT (math) tutoring of one kid. On the practice test the kid scored 390/800.

After my friend’s death last year (remember my Big or Small life thread?), I thought about the things I was waiting “until later” to do. I applied for, and was appointed to, a farily high profle city commission. We’ve met twice so far and it’s kind of intimidating, but I’m glad I pursued it.

I’m going to start working on a book.

There. I wrote it down in public, so I have to do it.

Were you standing behind him when he did it? :)

This summer I took a few day/weekend trips that I had wanted to do for years and had never gotten around to. Next up - I am trying to coordinate a weekend in NYC with my college roommate (neither of us live there). We haven’t seen each other in over 20 years.

Just a couple of weeks ago I took a 4 hr live figure drawing class. Intense. But fun.

We haven’t seen each other in over 20 years.

That sounds hella fun!

I found a couple of HS friends on FB and coordinated a connection with each of them when traveling. Having lunch with my two HS guy buddies made me feel 16 again, they certainly had not matured  and ripped on each other just like old times.

I got together with two childhood friends about six years ago; one (F1) I had not seen in twenty-five years. It was amazing how we picked up where we’d left off! As it turned out S1 went to school in Boston, where F1 lives, and now we visit back and forth a couple times a year. It is one of the best things that has happened to me in recent years.

I started watercolor classes last fall. This year I will be more daring and try oils.

Heh, I’m rereading War and Peace, in a version with the French intact. I’d love to do life drawing again. I need to find a class I like, the one I used to go to got a new teacher and I hate the way she runs it. I don’t actually need a class, just a live model.

The thing I’d really like to do is get some teeth in a landmark building ordinance. Our town just did something really stupid that has a bunch of people up in arms, so the momentum may finally be there.

“I am challenging myself with pro-bono SAT (math) tutoring of one kid. On the practice test the kid scored 390/800.
Were you standing behind him when he did it?”

No, but perhaps his mother was. The mother appears to be very demanding. Two of her sister’s kids are going to be MDs. So there is a high unrealistic expectations from parents. I asked the kid what he wants to study. He replied medicine. I am searching for ways to tell mother to chillax.

I would like to learn to silk screen t-shirts.

I am determined to get a job that pays a wage closer to what a college-educated, hard working, intelligent, professional 50-something woman SHOULD earn!! Believe me, in my profession & in my part of the country, this is a huge undertaking.

One of my coworkers, who frankly is not the sharpest tool in the shed, scored a good federal job last week, so I think it’s doable.

Note: I took 20 years off from the world of full time work, and I explored my creative side during those years. Work is my new frontier to tackle, as a result.

I always wanted to coach girls basketball. I got the opportunity when my kid was in middle school. I got my administrative assistant to help (she played college ball). We also had the help of a high school senior who was eventually named all city.

Our girls were awful, being middle school–attitude all over the place. But they eventually got better. Imagine our surprise and delight when they figured out the fast break in the midle of a game and blew out the other team!! The refs (who were used to our team losing miserably were just as surprised - lol)

My girls are all 2nd, 3rd, 4th year college students and doing fine. I can only hope that they took away the skills of teamwork. My basketball skills weren’t great, but we did stress teamwork and sportsmanship. I’m glad I did it.

As a side note, one morning I get a call from the phsy ed teacher. The boys coach had quit (the middle school biys had just as much attitude as the girls ). My assistant and i ended up coaching them also. Had one young man the all star team. These guys are all off to college also.

When our paths cross I still get the hugs. : )

…I would like to learn to silk screen t-shirts…

My D is doing just that as I type in the next room. Esay if you get a kit.

I love this thread!

I am thinking more and more about poetry. Reading it, and writing a little of my own. It’s still kind of a secret. I would like to eventually make my own chapbook.

I am learning to play bridge!

This is the year I sky dive. I have always wanted to do it, and now I decided that I will.

Determined to write a comedy screenplay based on a dear friend’s life - sort of a Bridget Jones meets Eat, Pray, Love. I’m a very serious person but when I set pen to paper out comes comedy - or at least attempts at comedy. It’s been a tough year - I need to find the laughter.
