My current favorite is Clinique “Very Currant.” It’s kind of a rosy coral color. It’s the high impact line and stays on longer than some. I’m very fair, and nude lipsticks make me look dead so I go for toned-down colors. I also like a sheer application of Pink Toffee. It is the buttershine line and feels very glossy. When I wear pink, I like Raspberry Glace. Haven’t tried the Black Honey in years. I will have to give it another look.
I took a lot of the suggestions here and did my own lipstick test. (love Sephora’s liberal return policy) I really liked Clinique especially the Butter Shine in Delovely and Bobbi Brown Blue Raspberry. What really surprised me was that Burt’s Bees Lipstick turned out to be my favorite at about a third of the price of some of the others.
My favorites are MAC lipsticks
Syrup - barely there color, just enough to make your smile shine.
Capricious - best color ever! Going out or make you feel like fabulous color.
Burt’s Bees in Lily Lake is my new favorite. Very inexpensive compared to a lot of other brands. Feels so smooth on my lips!
For those of you with olive skin that Need color on your lips , what do you Use? We all know black honey for fair skin is a favorite, but what about ones with more pigment? I just bought this from MAC and it’s my new favorite…
Plumful AA5. I use the following MAC gloss with almost everything …Viva Glam VI. During the fall I use it with Cliniques Pink Chocolate.
May try Chanel that several people have mentioned but at $37–ouch!
My issue is that lipstick is always gone within an hour and I’m not big on reapplying. A friend pointed me to a long lasting (I believe) Revlon lipstick that does last but it really dries out my lips. I then tried a l’oreal long lasting product which I liked much better but still don’t love. Just last week I bought a lip liner and lipstick by Two Faced (honey bear) recommended by “hot and flashy” that someone on CC recommended for make-up advice for those 50+ and, while I love the color and the feel, they last no more than 2 hours. Wondering if anyone has found anything long lasting they love that is less expensive than Chanel’s.
@collage1 see my recommendation upthread about the Maybelline 24 hour lipstick
I’ve been using Burt’s Bees lip shimmer in Rhubarb for years. It’s getting harder to find. And the tube starts out very sheer for a few weeks (which I like) but then seems to get denser and thicker like real lipstick (which I don’t like).
I just checked on the Clinique black honey on Amazon. The first review was by someone who is 85 and then there’s an 86-year-old a little farther down . Everyone in the reviews loves it. Is it available to try on at Sephora? I’m still skeptical, especially since it’s not cheap, but intrigued.
^^@motherofdragons, how hard is the Maybelline to remove? The Revlon one is very difficult to get off at the end of the day (AND dries out my lips). Thanks for the recommendation.
The two Clinique colors mentioned were ones I wore years ago. Great colors! (Same problem for me – they don’t last longer than 1-2 hours.)
@collage1 I use eye makeup remover to remove it. I like how tenacious it is, I put it on in the morning and it’s still there in the evening. I also like that I can do a light coat and have it be more like a lip stain.
I just bought a new Black Honey at Sephora. And I’m not 85 years old.
No it doesn’t stay on all day…but you know,.,it’s a tiny tube that can easily be kept in a purse or pocket…or desk drawer.
For a long-lasting lipstick, look into a product called LipSense. It is sold by consultants, not in stores. I discovered a FB friend who sells it after another friend recommended the brand to me. She mails it to me. It is a two-step product, but I only usually have to reapply the gloss after eating. It can be drying but not as much IMO as drug-store brands. There is a HUGE range of colors divided between warm and cool tones. Really bold and dark to very light. My favorite colors are Sheer Pink and Fire & Ice. They also have some great reds if you want to be bold. I am a very fair brunette with some “Arctic blondes.” After applying the color, a gloss is used on top. They offer a sheer gloss or a pearly gloss. The latter will tone down the color a bit. Color is $25 and gloss is $25 but it lasts a long time. Both are applied with a sort of sponge-ended wand.
The main reason I love it is that it does not “feather” into my lip lines at all!!! I have a couple of deeper “cracks” above my upper lip, and I find that regular lipstick bleeds into those. That had stopped me from wearing more color. As fair as I am, I needed color, so I was thrilled someone put me onto this product.
