I leave the house without any makeup 97% of the time! The other 3% are parties and dressy events, and I do wear minimal makeup for those.
I also am a fan of Cliniques Raspberry Glace. It’s a great summer pink without being too bright. I have light olive skin and just don’t look good without lipstick. It was sad when I had to throw away my dark plums, burgundy and reds…just too aging. I love Clinique and MAC lipsticks.
Clinique used to put a little round paper at the top that was the color of the lipstick and had the name on it. I have no idea when they stopped that, but I’m sick of continually having to,open and close the cases.
Clinique Black Honey is their most popular lipstick. However not enough color for my skin…it is very nice though.
@lje62 …have you tried Clinique? I used to always wear drugstore brands. As a matter of fact the only color that people continually complimented me on was a Revlon shade. Then about 10 years ago my lips started hurting and had that drying effect with all my lipsticks. I did some research and many have an ingredient that causes this, but the Cliniques do not. I’m sure others too, but I found I can wear that brand and not feel sore.
Another vote for Clinique! I do not like the smell/taste of most other brands of lipstick. I generally start with the shades in the free gifts and go from there. My favorite neutral is “Beauty,” but I’m not sure if they still make it. I also like “Black Honey” and “Raspberry Glace.”
I like many of the brands and even colors mentioned already. Bare minerals wand glosses are a favorite and I will second the recommendation of Burt’s bees lip shimmer- priced at about $5 they are very moisturizing and small enough to be tucked in a wristlet or pocket in my athletic wear. I’ve been wearing the watermelon color recently.
I’m also a longtime fan of Clinique black honey.
I’m just about to place an order with Sephora and the Clinique Black Honey sounds tempting. Are any of the fans of it out there very pale? I’ve got very light hair, skin and eyes, and my thin lips are probably my worst feature. I like to have a little sheer color though. Does anyone who loves it have similar coloring or thin lips?
@nottelling …you will love it. It looks very dark, but when applied is a beautiful color and more sheer. With pale skin, it may very well become a favorite of yours.
I love MAC gloss the best. The sponge applicator goes on nicely. I don’t like glosses with brushes.
I love that Black Honey. I seem to have isolated mine…so I will just go and buy a new one tomorrow.
It’s a very versatile color. Sheer enough for everyday…but enough color for dress up!
I am quite pale with blonde hair/blue eyes and my lips are pretty thin. I don’t find the Black Honey too dark, and it’s very sheer. But there’s definitely some color.
On Sephora’s website you can look at reviews, and filter by skin tone, age, etc. There are a few reviews where someone who is very fair prefers the Pink Honey color and finds the Black Honey too dark, but most find it flattering. The Black Honey is sort of a sheer raisin/berry/wine color on me.
Sephora’s return policy: you can return any product (new or gently used) if you are not satisfied.
My favorite bar-none lipstick is a cheapie Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hour Color. It is as tough as nails and stays all day long, and doesn’t rub off on your significant other. My favorite shade is 050, Unlimited Raisin, although the deep reds are excellent, too.
I pair it with Burts Bees pomegranate lip balm (the maybelline is a 2-step, I use the lip balm as the second step).
My pro-tip is to not use the brush that comes with it, but a good angle tip brush to paint the lips on. It takes a bit of practice, but the result is good color on your lips all day without having to touch up or constantly check them. Just hit them again with balm if they start feeling dry.
@conmama , yup, I have tried clinique ( generally my go-to brand for cosmetics )
^ @lje62 I,also, share your issue with dryness and peeling. I haven’t found anything, yet, but will try some of these suggestions… Thanks all!
Bert’s Bees now has lipstick as well as gloss --the beeswax base prevents the drying problems of all the petroleum-based lipsticks (like Clinique). Since switching to Bert’s I haven’t had peeling problems.
Clinique Black honey looks too dark on my lips, but barely registers on my daughters lips. I’m very fair, and she is medium fair.
I have olive or medium skin color and the black honey is not flattering on me. I bought it years ago and didn’t like it, but, decided to try it again recently. Still didn’t like it. The reviews are so great and all the blogs say that it’s super flattering on all skin types…except mine. Maybe I’ll try pink honey.
Nordstrom has their free gift with a $27 purchase on Clinique, if anyone is interested.
Love Channel Lip gloss–favorite colors are #108 and #142. Both are pinkish shades. My D recently gave me a Bobbi Brown lip gloss (Kir Sugar)–she bought the wrong color. I liked the color but prefer the Chanel lip gloss applicator.
One pretty coral lipstick for us olive toned ladies is Cliniques All Heart. It looks pinkish but it’s really coral…but not orangey.
I hardly wear makeup but when I do, its only lipstick. My skin is dark, so I hardly need makeup. I swear by MAC, Rebel-Satin finish being my favorite. I swear that lipstick never comes off. Now my daughter prefers MAC, but she wears Matte finish.
