There are some very reputable programs that have alumni cast in many shows I noticed.
Would like to see a list compiled for those who would like to supplement their applications with schools that don’t require auditions.

Right Now I know of"

Drew
Muhlenberg
Brandeis
Northeastern
U of Mass - Amherst

For the Northeastern common app it asks if the student would be sending in an arts supplement…does anyone know what that means? I couldn’t find that requirement on the theater website

pretty sure Drew is in Nj but which part? Temple does not have audition initially although there is mid school audition to keep taking acting classes(sophomore year? not sure).

It seems that my daughter’s classmates who aren’t going the BFA or even theatre route are completing arts supplements. As I understand it, they’re listing all of their extracurricular arts activities–the plays and all that they’ve been involved in while at the PA high school. One classmate said that one of her schools will even give a scholarship to a student involved in theatre even if they’re not majoring in it in college. It sounds like the arts supplement isn’t a bad thing, just another “thing” to have to complete.

Thanks so much for this list…My D has applied to two of them today…we needed a couple of BA options. I appreciate this site so much. Can’t tell you how much I have learned and how helpful everyone has been.

Bisouu how did you get your D to “apply to two today?” My D might agree that quickly but I could never get the essays out of her in a day. Lol.
Which two? She’s applied to Muhlenberg.

Madison, NJ, where Drew is located, is pretty solidly Northern, not Central, NJ. It is affiliated with NJ Shakespeare Festival.

Just FYI, my daughter sent a video and a video link of her four audition monologues to all BA programs she applied to, including Northwestern. She is attending Northwestern.

Yeah connections on your daughter!!! Thanks for update on Drew. i will look at in on map. I am assuming area is classic suburban north NJ? My kid wants an urban environment but if Drew is easy train ride to Manhatten, he might consider it. And I’m sorry, your daughter is attending NW but is applying to other programs too??? has she been accepted to NW already but not to theatre yet?

Sorry about the error about location. My husband used to live in Millburn which is the next town over, and you can definitely get NJ Transit into the city. You have to change in Hoboken to the PATH. (Or at least you did 20 years ago, when we were doing it.)

oh connections and now i get it; u were giving historical data for ur daughter. duhhh. well maybe our boys will meet depending on where they end up!!! I remember yours is in a special fine arts program, I think??? Cute little town will make my kid barf but i’ll still give it a look. He has grown up in a cute little town… in fact, Madison wil likely seem bustling by comparison. pace in Manhatten is more up his alley but neither of us liked the price tag

Drew has a beautiful campus. The NJ Shakespeare’s home is on the campus. The town
is a short walk away and has a nice town center. My daughter has a girl friend who transfered there and loves it. Goes into Manhattan a lot.
Another good school is Skidmore I’ve heard.
Salem State in Salem, Ma. has a very good program both BA and BFA.

vivahg11, so glad your D’s friend is loving Drew. I agree, the campus of Drew is really pretty, with lots of trees. And it’s very accessible to NYC.

I think location, campus size and overall atmosphere is a very, very individual thing, which is why it’s important to visit, either before or after acceptances! My D applied to Northwestern without our visiting as we don’t have a great deal of money; when she was accepted, we flew out to see it. It was April and very cold. She took a step out of the shuttle from the airport, breathed in the chilly windy air, gestured to the lake and said, with her hair whipping all over her face, “Wow, I love it here!” Good thing, right?

ctl987, my son is homeschooled and is taking a gap year (he turned 18 last spring). He’s applying to all auditioned BFA programs. First auditions start in January!

Connections, wish him the best when he starts the auditions! And same to all. Drew is souding nice; i will have to look it up. and connections, thanks for all the advice too :)
