Hello High Schoolers…

I need to compile a realistic list of topics one should know for Basic Math as well as Pre Algebra.

In essence, I need to learn of what one should know in order to be best prepared for Elementary Algebra.

It is important for me to learn this, because I am in the position of having to help the mother of a friend of mine re learn some of her math for a Community College math placement test she needs to take in July. If she qualifies for Elementary Algebra in the Fall she can take some kind of combo Intermediate/College Algebra class in the Spring and wind up saving money and a bit of time as well.

I think that this is the best area of this web site to post this, because all of you are always honest.

Basic theorems (such as Pythagorean)
Properties of Addition/Multiplication (Commutative, distributive, etc.)
Angles

That’s about all I can think of for basics.

I would recommend all of the material under the “Arithmetic” and “Pre-algebra” sections under the Khan Academy website (am I allowed to post links?).

^

Oh yes, please post the links!

This is all pertaining to something educational so it is alright.

Thank you very much :)

on the mathlinks forum, you need to know everything in the olympiad section, that is you need to be able to solve all of the various algebra, combi, inequalities, geometry and number theory problems in the olympiad section.

This is the link to Khan Academy: [Khan Academy](http://khanacademy.org/)

I would say that she should be up on arithmatic, fractions and percents, basic word problems, stuff like that.

A thorough knowledge of both the male and female reproductive systems will help immensely.

The problem with us is, we’re often sarcastic. :P

Make sure you know basic properties–commutative, associative, etc.; FOIL; rules of algebra (+/-/multiply/divide on both sides of equal sign; meaning of a variable; domain/range; how to deal with inequalities–is that on the test?) and of course, addition and subtraction. Seriously, addition is the first thing you forget when you start looking at variables. >.<

I would look at the practice tests for the COMPASS…

Hey, I wasn’t being sarcastic. OP, just wait and see. It’ll help you.

 Then I seem to have missed your point. Sorry!!

I was joking, lol.

I give up entirely. :)

^Haha. I successfully confused you.

 Oh no!!!

:D

Anyways…sorry about the threadjacking. :S
