Little splurges

Too late to add to my post above, but:

Renovating or repairing heirlooms. My great-grandmother’s rocking chair is being refinished and reupholstered. I just had two gold watches that were my MIL’s repaired so they work. (Planning to gift them to future DILs.) I spent waaaaaay too much money repairing and reframing my great-grandmother’s tapestry sampler. I’ve also had silver plate heirlooms re-plated.

airport parking. For early morning flights, I park at the airport instead of an economy lot.

I am with you, VeryHappy! Splurges in a different category: Minion-themed items. I just like them. Also, there is the occasional Ebay purchase–usually a bargain, but still a splurge. Every time I tell my spouse that I have “won” something on Ebay, he replies that I just “bought” it.

Good shoes

Nice workout clothes. I like to look pretty when I’m sweaty.

@socalmom007 I just looked up eyelash extenstions-oh my goodness those look amazing! Can you wear them with contacts? How long do yours last? I have short blonde lashes and I currently splurge on very expensive tubing mascara, and I would LOVE to get those…

I splurge on an expensive stylist-I used to go to supercuts and color my own hair from a box. When I turned 40 I stopped doing that. I wish I’d splurged on it a LONG time ago-what a huge difference.

The baked good aisle at Wegman’s. Last week it was a mini key lime pie that was utterly rapturous.

Hmmm…

I guess things related to our kids. Like I think we are splurging on certain items for DDs wedding.

@MotherOfDragons yes for sure you could have them with contacts! D17 has blond eyelashes, but hers are long, we get them tinted every 3 months. Not sure if they’d want to tint you before putting on extensions… mine last a good 3 weeks before I need a fill. They’re super natural looking and no make up needed.

More frequent splurges: meals out, wine, flowers in the house, excellent coffee beans for the expresso machine and massages are things DH I spring for regularly.

Fun thread. Love the idea of life changing socks, too.

I have a sporting goods collection to die for.

That’s it. I drive a simple car, hardly ever eat out, don’t watch movies, buy books, buy a ton of clothes, take fancy vacations, etc.

Hotels. I refuse to stay in pedestrian ones. I also always get at least a massage while there, and sometimes a facial. I do neither of those things when not away.

Recently, DH and I have been dining out a lot. We prefer our local independent restaurants to chains. Other splurges, shoes!

Weekly fresh flowers.

New clothes twice/year.

This last thing is not truly a splurge, per se, as it is always under $10, but there is a thrift shop that benefits charity in my neighborhood. If I am ever walking past it, I go in and often find a little something for my house that I don’t need, but is so very cheap that I enjoy getting it. My daughter goes there too and does the same.

Baked goods and ice cream. If I’m going to eat it I want it to be of great quality. Quality over quantity.

Wow! Some of your splurges sound like once-in-a-lifetime indulgences to me.

My current splurge is eating at the local pho place after a meeting I attend every Wednesday evening. It costs 9 bucks.

After years of scented lotions/ shower gels making me sneeze. I found the Jo Malone products don’t. My new indulgence- and now my family has gifts to buy me. I love the Pear and Fresia and it makes me smile to lather on the body cream every morning. I receive so many compliments on it.

@emilybee What exactly is a “pedestrian” hotel? I suspect it’s a good thing you aren’t in the workforce (at least I don’t think you are). You might have to get used to a different standard of travel.

For me- Frye and Taos boots. A stable of running shoes. Good soap. A really good, luxury watch that I’m not wearing these days since it’s been replaced with my FitBit!

We should, start another thread about hotels!

I love splurging on fancy yarn for knitting projects. I just got a few skeins of a wool and silk blend that is heavenly!

Definitely. We just recently used lot C at LAX for a weekend trip… never again. Horrendous experience, primarily with the shuttle bus. Took us – I kid you not – 35 minutes to get from the parking lot to the terminal, 1 mile away. Not to mention the disturbed/crazy guy on board who was cussing at random people.

They really make you work for that $12/day parking
