Little splurges

I’m not sure these are small splurges but occasionally we like like to stay at interesting places on our trips rather than the run of the mill hotels. Over the years and very occasionally we have stayed at a cabin once frequented by President Wareen G. Harding, a Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian home, a farmstead and a couple of other places. I also rented a convertible for a weekend just for fun.

Going out for crepes. We have this nice casual place where they make hot sweet or savory crepes.

^^^^Yum.

Can we join you? Yum!

I just splurged on two tickets to see the Alvin Ailey dance company. I’ve always wanted to see them live, and I’m taking my oldest kid who will be home for spring break. We rarely do things like this, so it really feels like a treat.

I was going to comment that it has been a long time since I saw a show on Broadway , but then I remembered I took some Swedish friends to see Jersey Boys. I would love to catch a matinee

Putting the dog in a kennel rather than trying to get someone else to watch him when I go away, have a medical procedure, or sometimes just 'cuz.

My cousins found a widow who became a dog boarder. As soon as we drove into her neighborhood, the Lab would get so excited, and bound from car to hug this woman. No guilt, cuz he was going to doggie heaven.

Bulleit bourbon instead of the Trader Joe’s brand (even for cocktails.) I definitely need to up my bra game. I forget that I have a lot more to support now than I did thirty years ago.

Whatever I want at the farmer’s market. Six more weeks!

I splurged on fresh corn on the cob this week. While nothing compares to August native corn, fresh corn is still way better than canned or frozen.

I actually like canned corn, if I rinse off all the salt.

I bought the soft toilet paper instead of the cheap one. (For the guests.)

I got a nice lanyard for my work badge. Makes me happier to wear it.

I have been dating for the past year and some of my little splurges for my dates are buying flowers, attending concerts and comedy shows, and eating at restaurants that I could never afford when my children lived at home.

I will buy a lobster at the supermarket every now and then. Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. My favorite wine and ale.

Good for you TonyK ! I buy cooked lobsters at the supermarket in the summer ( less expensive if they are on the shelf, I found ) I make lobster salad or poster cream sauces to serve over cod…or lobster chowder.

By the way, mom and her buddies learned that Whole Foods will cook Lobster or whatever you buy that you ask them to cook. She and her friends have had them cook lobster and salmon so far. They shared it for lunch.

So, what are you doing with that Bulleit Bourbon? Sipping or mixing?

I usually avoid all of the “brown” spirits, but I got adventurous one night and took the server’s recommendation that the bartender makes an excellent old-fashioned. It was only slightly sweet and soooo good. I was pleasantly surprised!

Green Mountain Dark Magic K cups. Any K cups are ridiculously expensive compared to regular coffeemaker brewing. But man oh man, I love it so much. I sought my whole adult life for this taste so I do not want to give it up.
And my housekeeper still even after retirement.

pizza night
Today it’s thai pizza.
