Yes, once you get sizing, brands and styling, online can reap big savings!
I know of only one store in my area that sells Marie Jo and Prima Donna, so I buy my little splurges online.
My teens were buying their bras from Target (with their own money, so small budget) and finally I decided it was time to intervene. Our splurge was a trip to Nordstrom’s to get each kid fitted, and they could pick out 2 everday bras.
Then, I directed them to Bare Necessities online to keep on eye on sales. I’m thinking about getting each of them a gift certificate so they can shop for a swimsuit (that fits!) too.
Yes, we bought my D her bras from WalMart because they were the ONLY place that had bras that were her petite size that she could try on in our state. We finally went to Bloomingdale’s, had her measured and bought her two new bras when she was home for the holidays this year. She now has an idea of how they are SUPPOSED to fit and look. She’s pleased with them and feels they should last her many years.
there are bras that cost that much?!?!!! I had no idea. I feel like a yokel
There are custom-tailored bras that take into account individual “topography.” Those are not little $$$plurges.
Final Call sales at Saks and Neiman’s are wonderful. I love nice lingerie. II have purchased La Perla bras for $70ish. Wacoal for 24. Don’t rule out stores just because of a name.
I bought a $50 bottle of wine and a $15 one at Costco. Did a blind taste test on DH, who considers himself a savvy wine drinker, and he liked them about the same. I agreed. So no more wine splurges there.
I will occasionally pick up a small chunk of expensive cheese to try out. Fun.
Rarely, a nice purse at TJMaxx. Got DD a cute Kate Spade for Christmas, after debating with myself whether that was too much for an 18yo.
I also love to splurge on fancy hotels in great locations.
I splurge on a short winter break to a warm place every year. Gives me enough staying power for the rest of winter.
I’d love to splurge on some good bras. I’ll check out the Bare Necessities website, but what are some people’s favorite brands? I’m willing to spend some $ for something that will last and look nice. @MotherOfDragons, you made me laugh with the eyelash extension discussion with your H. My soon-to-be sister-in-law has her own salon in San Diego, specializing in extensions. I know nothing about the process and have never been there, but she is universally beloved by her clients. So I guess they can’t be that dicey?
Molton Brown shower gel.
Maintaining a hot tub at temperature during Maine winters! Since we work at home, it’s heavenly to take a mid-afternoon break by sitting in the steaming hot tub and looking out at the snowy woods.
@picklesarenice : First you have to get professionally fitted. Go to a fancy lingerie store and try on a dozen different ones. Pick out the two or three that seem to do it for you and wear them for a few months. By then you’ll know what you really like. Then, and only then, go on barenecessities.com and buy yourself a bunch of your preferred bras.
Unfortunately barenecessities isn’t like Zappos. You have to pay return shipping.
I agree with @VeryHappy. You have to get fitted, try on a bunch and wear for several months before you KNOW your size(s) and brand(s). It’s really worthwhile to have this done, especially if you’re “well-endowed.” Once you have a pretty good idea of your size, brand, style, you can buy discounted ones that don’t cost quite as much, but still fit you well. It can really make a difference in comfort and support!
Must be a nice problem to have. :(. I buy mine at costco.
Actually, if nonsurgically “the gals” could be reduced I think many of us would be very tempted to do so.
I am not well-endowed; those of you who have met me IRL know that. Nevertheless I understand that a good bra can effectively perform that “nonsurgical” reduction.
@MaineLonghorn you bring back a great memory for us-one of our past houses had a giant hot tub on the back porch, and we would sit in it and watch tv through the window.
One night we were watching an old movie (I think it was the Jimmy Stewart Christmas movie), and as it started to snow in the movie, it started to snow on us in the hot tub!
. This was Atlanta 20 years ago so it was still unusual back then for it to snow.
@VeryHappy, even if a good bra can minimize the appearance of a sillouette by flattening or moving tissue, it does not reduce the weight if “the gals.” I know many women who are fit but endowed who have back, neck and shoulder issues, even with “good bras” that fit them properly. It’s physics and gravity.
Sorry, not meant to hijack, just saying the other side that isn’t mentioned often. Ok, back to splurges.
