I agree. Kirsten Dunst played young Amy so much better in the Winona Ryder “Little Women”.
Yes, Dunst was wonderful in that role. And just around 12 years old at the time!

Very disappointed as I had looked forward to this. I turned it off.
The NYT review is spot on with it’s mention of the “intrusive music” - which is also my main complaint with “Call the Midwife.” But I guess background music that is too much and too loud should not come as a surprise in “Little Women” since both shows are produced by Heidi Thomas.
There were scenes last night where I, too, felt the music was intrusive. The music chosen seemed out of place with the time and place being portrayed. I also found some of the costuming a tad flashy and out of context vs. the book and the 1994 movie version. Another complaint was how dark some of the scenes were. It was hard to discern the action on screen.
Like @Momofadult, we turned it off about halfway through the first episode. So disappointing and so disappointed.
We enjoyed it. Didn’t have the concerns others have raised, but that’s just our own opinion. I don’t have any memory of reading the book, though I know that I did watch the '94 version. Angela Lansbury did great; Maya Hawke was a very satisfactory Jo. We’re tuning in next week, in any case.

I loved the 1994 version. Like the poster above I turned it off about half way through. I thought that the acting was terrible. I may give it another chance but I’m not expecting much.
I really didn’t like the way Amy was played…
Just saw that there’s a new screen adaptation of Little Women planned!
Cast so far includes Saoirse Ronan, Emma Stone, Florence Pugh, Timothée Chalamet, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March!
