Lofting Beds in Barrett Dorms?

I have heard that fully lofting beds (lofting bed to place desk and chair underneath) is “Barrett Illegal”? Is this true? My roommate and I were hoping to both loft our beds in order to create more floor space.

Thank you for any help!

Talked to someone in housing about this. In my daughter’s hall in Barrett, Cereus, the beds are higher off ground than a regular bed, mattress top about chest height so you have to climb up to get into bed, but not lofted, and no lofting is permitted. So you can put stuff under the bed like dryer racks, file cabinet, a low dresser(though they weren’t sure whether the provided dresser would fit), etc, but I was told a desk for sure won’t fit. The person I spoke with said situation varies from one hall to another, so you can call them and ask about your room and what the possibilities are.

The lofting policy is not Barrett specific, but university wide.

It’s under ‘general safety’

There are plenty of people that loft their beds and place their desks and chairs beneath. You’re supposed to ask maintenance to do it for you. You can even make bunk beds. No one will check or really care unless you break something. So don’t break anything and you’ll be fine

I just found some photos from the Barrett Business Community page that shows students with their beds lofted/desks underneath. I’ll be living on one of those floors next year so that’s reassuring. Thank you guys for the help!
