You thought that it could not get worse than Vancouver? So sorry!

Sorry but the opening Ceremony is a flop! It’s boring, unclear and just not entertaining ! Trying way too hard! The director of Slum Dog Millionaire must be getting his cues from the Magical Mystery Film the Beatles flopped on! This is really bad! I know China was outstanding but even without those shoes to fill this stands alone as a disaster!

Hey, on the positive side, the commercials are allowing me to catch up on the current contentious CC thread. Interesting to be a spectator in 2 events-- even if one is more exciting than the other.

I was fortunate to attend the dress rehearsal for the 1996 opening ceremonies. Got to see all the good stuff (it is really pretty cool to be right there) and they essentially skip the parade of nations (or have a very bare bones group of stand-ins with flags).

If the billion people around the world who are supposedly watching are as bored as I, there’s a lot of laundry getting done.

When is McCartney going to be on? Its getting past my bedtime…

It would be cool if Ringo joined him. Throw in a few of the “well preserved” Rolling Stones while they are at it…

Considering his Jubilee performance, you could do worse than going to bed and watching one of his oldies on your iPhone.

This looks like the geriatric ward. And beyond awful.

Hey- to those of us who aren’t much younger, a little hair dye and make-up on them goes a long way!

… and hair plugs or weaves or what have you, as well

Rewatching tonight on NBC and I have to say that it’s a very different experience. All of the commercial breaks has totally thrown off the flow of the program. I enjoyed it a lot this afternoon but tonight? Nope. Those watching it on NBC are missing much of the ceremonies, which is a shame.

Paul McCartney is not on until the very end.

To emulate Vancouver by keeping the worst for the bitter end? Actually, London found a way to make Vancouver look decent, which is a Herculean task.

xiggi, do you ever have anything positive to say? About anything? Good grief.

So, my husband just asked me if I think David Beckham is handsome. I have to remind him my eyes work perfectly well, even for my age. :)

Well, should I lie and pretend there is something positive in this event? Are we watching the same show?

I call it as I see it. And beyond awful is all I can say. This is an event four years in the making, and that is what we get? Thank God the Chinese did not get the memo that boring us to death was the objective.

This might tide you over:

From what I have read so far, the participants in the National Health Service performance were all staff members of British hospitals…but not all were doctors and nurses…and some of the children were real patients.

Is that the recent concert where they pulled the plug on them? What the heck???

Gotta hand it to those drummers, though. They are olympic athletes themselves. Good grief, how long have they been going??

I love that all the athletes coming in look so very happy.

I won’t give the torch thing away, but I followed the show live via The Guardian. NBC always screws up when they have the Olympics. Bob “know it all” Costas incorrectly pronounced the name of a country. I only get 3 of the many channels doing coverage, and I’ll just live with it. I am really sad that there will not be baseball or softball.

Who is talking? I recognize Bob Costas’ voice (don’t I?) and I don’t hear Meredith at all. Did her shift end or did they yank her off the air or did she just clam up? I like her a lot, but her commentary was not the greatest.

I am watching and there are the people that lead the countries along the path. One is carrying the country name, one is carrying the flag and then there is always a kid carrying something in their arms. What are the kids carrying?

Oh Idad, I never know when you are facetious. The Boz is indeed great.

As far as saying sth nice, here is a MUCH better exhibition in the genre.
