Sad for Mariel Zagunis. She was going for her 3rd gold in sabre and got nothing. In her semi she was ahead at one point 12-5. D fenced in hs and Mariel visited her campus after Athens.

And I’ll never forget the awe in which I held Olga Korbut and her other Soviet teammates, as well as many of the incredible Soviet ice skating champions, just to name a very few.

I think Americans are actually very interested in the amazing accomplishments of other athletes. You just wouldn’t know it based on the incredibly biased coverage we get now. Most people I know are very dissatisfied with NBC’s coverage of the Olympics.

Yay Nathan!!!

Definitely. If Komova wins the all-around tomorrow, I doubt the NBC commentators will actually celebrate her and appreciate how great of a gymnast she is. They’ll probably focus on the Americans faltering, or accuse the judges of being biased since American gymnasts are the most victimized group ever.

One thing I think we all agree upon is that NBC sucks in its Olympic coverage. Anyone remember the debacle that was the red/white/blue thing of Atlanta? Is it true what was said above that they have the rights through 2020? It’s not even known where 2020 will be held.

Speaking of red, white & blue…
Does anyone else shake their head every time they see the American’s in those grey warm-up jackets, black pants, and neon green kicks? There’s nothing inherently wrong with them, but not for Team USA at the Olympic games IMO. Anything currently wrong with red, white, and blue?

I’m watching the pre-show “Olympic Zone” about the difficulty one of our pole vaulters has in traveling with her poles. Stuff like that has never before occurred to me. Looks like a total PITA.

“I think Americans are actually very interested in the amazing accomplishments of other athletes. You just wouldn’t know it based on the incredibly biased coverage we get now. Most people I know are very dissatisfied with NBC’s coverage of the Olympics.”

I second that. Yes, NBC is pathetic. Yesterday’s gymnastics coverage was absolutely inadequate. A couple of Russians, some footage of the 24 yr old gymnast, some American vaults… Weren’t there more than 2 teams? So much time was wasted on stupid “interviews”! Even the young ones think NBC is doing a poor job - D’s BF got in a Twitter shouting match with a guy who was defending the lousy NBC’s coverage.

All the time with tennis coverage. ESPN is particularly horrid - even repeating several matches of Americans already show in the same broadcast window. They once showed a Serena match three times in one day while live matches were still going on.

So sad, Misty May Treanor & Kerri Walsh just lost their first set ever in the Olympics to Austria.

(well not just, but I just saw it on prime-time)

Another yay for Nathan !!!
Last American who won the 100M free was Matt Biondi in 1988, the year Nathan was born!!

Yes, 0.01 seconds! Awesome job! The local news are doing backflips. :)

Im happy that Julia made the final in the 200 br. According to her friend, she felt that she went out too fast in the 100 and “did not swim her own race”.

I still empathize with all the parents in the stands. I love the ad I’ve seen, showing little kids on diving boards, balance beam, etc., with the caption that to their moms, they’re all little kids. That really resonates.

Speaking of which, do any of the North Korean or Chinese parents show up? With NBC coverage being what it is, you can’t tell if they’re there but not being shown, or if they’re not allowed to be there.

If you really want to let NBC know how you feel about their coverage, and particularly if you have specific suggestions/complaints, shoot this guy an e-mail:

“Hughes, Greg (NBCUniversal)” Greg.Hughes@nbcuni.com

He’s the NBC sport’s group’s VP of communications. He seems like a nice enough guy— I don’t think he has a clue, but maybe if enough people e-mail him, he will get it

So thrilled for Nathan Adrian! I love the shot of Lochte and Phelps cheering him on in the ready room. :)

(and you totally know what he was thinking…I wish I didn’t have to talk to the idiot reporter from NBC!..WHY does she always ask the most inane questions?!)

S is incoming college freshman and is dying for coverage of kayaking, team handball, etc.—sports we just see every 4 years–very tough to find among gymnastics/swimming all the time.

Makes me think of the winter games two years ago when my entire office got into curling–so much fun!!

“Speaking of which, do any of the North Korean…parents show up”

Ummm, can they do that without political fall-out?

@ MADad - You can rewatch most events that were live-streamed earlier in the day (with the exception of gymnastics, swimming finals, and diving, that they want you to watch in prime-time).

[Live Olympic Video - Full Schedule | NBC Olympics](http://www.nbcolympics.com/online-listings/day=august-1/index.html)

“I think Americans are actually very interested in the amazing accomplishments of other athletes. You just wouldn’t know it based on the incredibly biased coverage we get now. Most people I know are very dissatisfied with NBC’s coverage of the Olympics.”

YES! NBC hasn’t even given us many of the traditional silly stories about athletes, like the swimmer for Equatorial Guinea who swam the 100. I think it is amazing in a historic Olympics where every country has a female athlete that we can’t hear a story about how they developed their program. I don’t need the full-on soap opera but I would love a story about one of the many athletes that is truly just happy to be there.

The men’s all around gymnastics competition was even more poorly covered in prime time than the women’s. I didn’t think that was possible. They showed one event of the young man who got the silver. It seemed as though there were only 2 people in the competition, once the other American crashed and burned.
