London Olympics 2012 - SPOILER ALERT

Gold medal for Brazil in the Men’s Rings. The ability to do what they do on the rings is so impressive. Great for Brazil to have a defending champion in four years when they host.

Canuckguy, thanks for that story. I love the extra ‘commentary’ by CC members on the various events.

alwaysamom,
I am always amazed at the rings. well, I amazed at all the gymnastics events.

Too bad about Gabby on bars, but I’m happy for Tweddle getting bronze. She is 3-time world champion in this event, 4th in China.

Wow, the mens’ vault finals was as awesome as the womens’ was terrible.

I was crushed for Maroney, but it did contribute to a great story. Weiber was disappointed by not making the AA finals, but did a great job in the team comp. Raisman uncharacteristically wobbled on beam in the AA, but did a great job in the team comp. Maroney uncharacteristically fell in her vault final, but did the vault of a lifetime in the team comp. Individual results may have been less than perfect, but they all came through when the team gold was on the line.

Also, love that Maroney didn’t cry and pout on camera. (She can do whatever she wants when she’s alone or with friends). Glad she didn’t weep on camera over silver.

Boy, the bars final was great. Great routine after great routine.

Anyone else watching the US/Canada women’s soccer game? 1-0 Canada at the 23 minute mark courtesy of the fabulous Christine Sinclair.

^ It’s a cracker.

Going to extra time tied 3-3, what a battle. It’s a shame someone has to lose.

Agree, electronblue. What a game! Too bad the officiating hasn’t been at the same level as the play.

How tired would you be if you were in that game?!

Incredible game! I’m exhausted just watching it.

What a battle! USA 4-3.

Done?..

Oh, Canada. Tough loss for them. This was a real highlight of the games so far, well played.

And people say soccer is boring. Great win for the U.S. and heartbreaking loss for the Canadians. As huge underdogs entering the game, they outplayed the #1 ranked team. What an effort!

Got to feel bad for the Canadian soccer team. I would not say Canada outplayed the USA, but we were outcoached … as it has been the case so often in the last years. The input of a smart coach is tangible in a game like today as the Canadian coach accomplished a lot with a lot less talent. On the other hand, the US continues to play without much style nor direction. The USA and its talented players need more than a cheerleader on the sidelines. Fwiw, we really should look south of the border and try to convince Leonardo Cuellar to head our team in the next years. The man has done miracles with bandaids and rubber bands.

We’ll see how they do against Japan and see if we give the game away like in the last WC.

That game was intense! Always been a fan of Christine Sinclair ever since she went to
U of Portland where a lot of my family is alumni. I was rooting for the US though, since Alex Morgan, Hope Solo, and Sydney LeRoux all play for the Seattle Sounders Womens team.

That was an amazing game. Those women had to be completely wiped out after that. The commentators stating that the winner of the game will face Japan for gold kind of takes the suspense out of the Japan v France match that they are showing AFTER the America v Canada game ended.

Yes, the winning goal was scored 32:30 minutes into the 30:00 overtime … 3 extra minutes were added to OT and the US scored with about 30 seconds left. As great as the game was for the US it was so unfair for Canada who could not have done more to win the game.

I didn’t see the game-how was it “unfair?” Isn’t added time for injury legitimate time? Both teams had that 3 minutes, right? Canada could have “done more”-they could have been the team to score with 30 seconds left, correct?

Not unfair in the sense that Canada should have won and the US should have lost … in a lot of terrific games whichever side loses I feel bad for the team that lost which played great but did not get the win.

^^^^Okay, got that. I thought you were saying there was something literally “unfair,” and not having seen the game, I wondered what that was.
