London Olympics 2012 - SPOILER ALERT

I’m wiped out and emotionally spent just THINKING about that! Maybe I don’t have to go to the gym…

I will never understand why soccer can’t have a clock for the extra time so everyone watching knows how much time is left.

That was a fantastic soccer game. Just fantastic. Both Canada and the US played great.

Last of the gymnastics events finals this morning.

How exciting that there are two brothers (from GBR) in the leading group of 3 in the men’s triathlon. One of them is going to have to serve a 15 second penalty at some point so he may not be able to get back to the front. A little past half way in the run.

Just have to say that while Gabby’s performance on the uneven bars was disappointing, I read her remarks in the paper today and she was very gracious toward the winners. She is a classy young lady.

I know that NBC needed to keep up the suspense on ladies’ bars, but even with a great routine, Gabby was a long shot for a medal.

Bolt has mentioned he would like a tryout with Manchester United.

I hope he isn’t joking.

I would love to see him try.

Gabby is gracious, but given that her top scores were nowhere near the winning scores, I suspect she went in aware it was a long shot. The NBC commentary just sounded silly - the ending did not seem like a surprise at all.

I saw synchronized pairs yesterday and while I’ve always thought it was sort of a stupid sport, I was really impressed with the Spanish and Russian routines. That sort of swimming works really well with tango music, and the Russian music choice (it included the theme from Tim Burton’s movie “Sleepy Hollow”) worked very well too.

mathmom,

I did what we then called “water ballet” in my youth. I can tell you it was fun and really demanding!

Spain finally got its first gold today, windsurfing. In 2016 it is being replaced by golf? One of the few sports I really don’t enjoy watching.

Beautiful routine by Sui Lu on the beam.

Ugghh! So tired of glitchy live streaming. I completely missed Catalina Ponor.

Crud!! I didn’t loose connection but it completely blipped over Deng Linlin’s dismount.

Thanks alwaysamom! <downarrow> I finally gave up and am streaming from my iphone…</downarrow>

blue, Catalina is in third but not likely for long. Her dismount is spectacular, and apparently the most difficult of anyone’s.

I believe sychro swim is demanding. They spend an incredible amount of time underwater! I have a question - can you hear the music when you are under water?

All those hand and arm flourishes and body flexing during the balance beam I don’t get. I realize it’s supposed to make them look graceful, but they look very robotic while doing it.

Oops, Gabby just fell. I think the pressure and stress finally got to her.

We’re talking the '60s here. We could hear the music, but needless to say our routines were mostly above water for the audiences.

uhoh. Nooo!!!

Oh my goodness, Komova fell, too.

Oh goodness, it’s like dominos. I feel so badly for all these young women who are the best in the world.

Oh boy. Raisman’s score is lower than Ponor’s. The U.S. is appealing.

Tie score. Raisman gets the bronze.
