London restaurant recommendations.....

visiting daughter studying abroad in March…

any “must eat at” suggestions…

ethnic is fine (Italian, Asian) No British food suggestions please (unless it falls into the “must eat at” category)…

all different price points are ok; staying near Hyde Park but don’t mind travelling…

Out at Canary Wharf … which is a bit of a hike via tube from Central London … is Jamie Oliver’s Italian place that looked amazing. You’ll need reservations (we did not eat there – but wanted to). There was another place around the corner that was really really good …and of course I cannot remember the name.

We were there last summer …

Pantechnicon - near the corner of Hyde Park and Green Park… on Motcomb street

Really Really good both times I ate there - most recently two weeks ago…

Wagamama…

Must eat category - Fish and chips in a pub.

They also have a lot of Indian food places.

I’ve mostly eaten in pubs over there (with my family - not drinking) and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was usually pretty good and a better price than in a regular restaurant.

Sorry I don’t have any specific ones I can remember.

Enjoy your time there - it s/b fun!

When my son visit London, two coworkers from Europe recommended Wagamama (a chain).

[wagamama | positive eating + positive living](http://www.wagamama.com/)

If you like Indian food, go to Brick Lane. Both sides of the street are lined with Indian & Pakistani restaurants.

Look for “gastropubs” vs. regular “pubs” for better pub dining vs pub grub.

Shezan has THE BEST Indian food I’ve ever eaten.

It’s on Cheval Place. They have a website…look it up.

Ana Capri on Dorset off of Baker street was one of our favorites. We went there often. We also ate at the Golden Hind on Marylebone Lane for fish and chips. The Seashell in Lissen Grove is also a popular sea food restaurant.

Make sure that you go somewhere for Tea. It is wonderful to have a proper British Tea. I enjoyed having tea at the Dukes Hotel off of Piccadilly.

Also, the sandwiches at Pret a Manger were so good.

Orsini Cafe on Thurloe in Knightsbridge. It is near the Victoria and Albert and the Museum of Science. Also, Da Scalsa (spelling?) also on Thurloe for an easy lunch and/or take away pastries. Both are near Harrods.

Not expensive and really good.

Belgo Centraal - Belgian Food that is off the hook. Best mussels you will ever have and the fries are to die for. Must eat them with mayonnaise - you’ll never use ketchup again. Oh, and the 100 or so beer options, mostly Belgian.

Still one of the places our college kids always want to get back too.

This is not fast food - this is real good food. Take it from a major foodie.

There is a Wagamama in the Prudential Center in Boston - it’s great.

Turkish: I like Ozer on Regent Street - fresh, healthy and unique Turkish food. Warm service and a great value. The same family also owns the Sofra restaurants in several other locations in London.

French: Clos Maggiore. Pretty dining room, very elegant, delicious food, professional waitstaff

Joel Roubuchon. Sit at the bar - sophisticated atmosphere, excellent food

The Wolseley. Fun, lively atmosphere in a converted old bank building. Very popular place - hard to get a reservation. Bistro style food.

Goodman - a steak place - rather Chicago style. Good food. Reasonable prices.

I did not care for the Gaucho restaurants - Argentine theme - raw meat brought to the table. Very dark interiors.

You can use London Eating to book many restaurants online:

Opentable is also good for booking London restaurants.

I second the recommendation for Belgo Centraal. It’s a really fun place with good food.

you guys are amazing…some great suggestions for both lunch and dinner; I’m making a list…and yes, I just figured out that alot of these are on open table…works for us…

gourmetmom - I think the one in Boston is the only one in the states???

There’s also one in Faneuil Hall and another near Harvard. The Prudential location has been there a couple of years, and the others, even longer. I was just there last week with my daughter - had the yasai yaki soba - so good!

Indian: Majjo’s deli in East Finchley

We loved an Indian restaurant/grill called Amaya, not too far from Harrods. It was a unique experience-very fresh, flavorful and excellent selection on the varied menu. The dining experience was particularly fun, as you ordered multiple dishes which were served to the table for sharing- they arrived as they were cooked. Made for a memorable evening, especially if you have a few people dining together. It was a bit of a splurge, but worth it.

We also enjoyed Belgo Centraal. During the early dinner hours, 5-6:30 if I remember correctly, they have select meals that the price is the time you place your order. 5 pm means 5 pounds. The price goes up as it gets later. Mussels are included. A real bargain for London. We went for an early dinner before seeing the play “War Horse” just around the corner. Wonderful evening!

^^I had checked out the website for Belgo Centraal last night; very cool and they also have a special lunch menu…very reasonable too!!..
