long sleeved career type top

Does anyone have a favorite long sleeved shirt to wear under cardigans? It needs to be something that doesn’t have to be tucked in and something dressier than a t-shirt. I keep finding things online that are embellished or have bell sleeves or shoulder cut- outs. Not a turtle neck

Thanks!

How about this?

Thanks !

Is it fashionable to wear a long tunic with a shorter cardigan over it? (Total fashion ignoramus here.)

Bell sleeves seem to be in this year. I went shopping yesterday looking for some long sleeve tops and was very discouraged. I ended up buying two basic button front blouses from Lands End. It wasn’t really what I was looking for but I needed something and bell sleeves don’t work well in an office setting.

I read the blog Corporette, for some reason, even though it’s a fashion/career blog for women lawyers and I’m retire d, do not need career clothes and do not aspire to be on trend.

For career blouses, they recommend this from Boden: http://www.bodenusa.com/en-us/womens-tops-t-shirts/long-sleeved-tops/wa784/womens-the-classic-shirt

And check out this post with other recommendations for dress shirts: http://corporette.com/best-women-dress-shirts/

Here’s a popover woven shirt, on sale at Talbots: https://www.talbots.com/online/The-Perfect-Wrinkle-Resistant-Popover-Shirt-Stripes-prdi43028/N-0

Here’s a long cardigan that might work with the long blouse I linked to earlier:

Thanks everyone -this is very helpful
@“Cardinal Fang” I have seen pics of short sweater/ long shirt combo -but I don’t think I could pull it off. I would have to do longer cardigans I think

I like Lofts utility blouses. Very comfortable and they layer under sweaters easily. https://www.loft.com/utility-blouse/443411

I think untucked is the trend these days, so I think any normal button down blouse would work. I also like plain long sleeve crewnecks like you can find at llbean or Land’s End because they’re not too “scoopy”. I don’t know if that’s too casual or not.

Thanks -it is not for work -I teach exercise -so I work in tights mostly LOL . But for church. I wear dress pants or skirts and cardigans to church and I am having a hard time finding something that works under cardigans. I lean towards conservative librarian clothes. I have a really high waist. So when I tuck in blouses I look like my waist is right under my boobs.

I like all these suggestions. I was also wondering about something like a dressy long sleeved T-shirt if there is such an animal.

There are dressier long sleeve Ts. You probably have to go to a more classic store like LandsEnd or something because the Lofts/Banana stores all have bell sleeves and nothing else! Here is one possibility - it is more shaped and a thinner feel than a “T shirt” type shirt. https://www.landsend.com/products/womens-shaped-layering-crewneck-t-shirt/id_302533?sku_0=::O4F

How about a silk t shirt, something like this

https://www.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/eileen-fisher-womens-long-sleeve-stretch-silk-jersey-crew-neck-shirt?ID=555981&pla_country=US&cm_mmc=Google-PLA-ADC--New%20View-NA--Eileen%20Fisher-_-713259001529USA&CAWELAID=120156070001423972&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=48008854218&CATCI=aud-298639203740:pla-377645883054&CATARGETID=120156070005982918&cadevice=c&gclid=Cj0KCQiA_5_QBRC9ARIsADVww15BY0O7edbkJopHFvQYVsR85O-tpHgqKbfZveVYHjD_KSKt5iYn6TgaAlQUEALw_wcB

I wear them all the time. The silk makes them a dressier and I can wear them with jeans and a nice sweater if I know I am going out in the field, or I wear them with dress pants or a skirt if I am staying in office all day.

+1 for the eileen fisher silk tees. Some of mine are more than 8 years old and still look like new. I’ve worn them hard, and wash them on gentle, hang to dry. I have turtle necks and crew necks. They are indestructible and good looking, although so very very pricey. I wear scarves with them if I need something around my neck.

eta: sometimes I hang out on corporette, too.

Cardinal Fang - if you haven’t already found it, purse blog. At the bottom of the forum list is a Wardrobe section. One thread is “How do you wear your Chanel jacket?” A group of Chanel fanatics collect and share jacket photos. It’s amazing and entertaining fantasy for me.

Correction: Purse Forum, not purse blog

Thanks everyone for posting links! I am excited. I have shied away from Eileen Fischer cause the price -but it is probably time for me to bite the bullet. Cheaper I am sure than buying something at only wearing it one season cause it was never quite right.

^eileen fisher has pretty regular sales. It might be worth bookmarking what you want and checking regularly. A lot of things sell out very fast on sale.

I am not recommending any tees but the silk ones. because I don’t have experience with the other tee shirt fabrics.

I have some silk t shirts from Loft. I also have a few Eileen Fisher. The key problem I have is to remember to not let them end up in the dryer. I’m wearing a linen t shirt from Loft today and they are also nice. Again no dryer.

I wash them with my underthings and bras and hang all of it to dry. Otherwise for sure I’d get confused and dry them with the rest of the load.

Wintersilks also has some silk and silk blend tees that aren’t too expensive. If I wasn’t retired, I’d probably go for something like that - silk does look more dressy, but I find the Llbean and Land’s End tees easier to care for and fit my casual lifestyle better. I bought my daughter some Wintersilks silk long sleeve undershirts when she was having eczema problems. Silk feels so nice on the skin.

Nordstrom’s Rack has nice Foxcroft shirts that really don’t wrinkle and come in a variety of styles, fabrics and colors, solids and prints. They always look pressed, even if you’ve worn them for hours. They come in cotton and cotton polyester.
