<p>^^^ Agreed, Lafalum, but I wouldn’t limit that to minor dances and banquets - I think it applies to proms, as well. (And some weddings …)</p>
<p>My kids have been to picture parties. I’m just realizing that I haven’t looked at any of the pictures since the day after their proms.</p>
<p>My daughter has decided not to go to the prom. She has never been asked out either. She has lots of guy friends, but she is a goody-goody girl, will not hang with anyone who will drink or smoke, so that eliminates some boys from asking her. (Because going to Prom includes an all-weekend hangout at the Jersey shore.) Other boys just don’t think of her in that way, like the OP’s daughter. She asked one boy who graduated last year, but he is attending another prom at another school the week before and didn’t want to do both, so she got shot down.</p>
<p>She has gone to a few dances by herself, and she went to this year’s homecoming with a gay friend, but she really isn’t into dancing and the loud music, and as she puts it, dancing that is basically like having sex with your clothes on. </p>
<p>So, she and her gay friend are both staying home from prom, getting dinner, and hanging at his house. He’s never seen the movie Rent, and she’s been dying to watch it with him. I think she will have a much better time, and she doesn’t have to get her hair and nails done. And she can wear sneakers!</p>
<p>iluvsunshine, My younger sister was the same way. Then my mom was talking to a friend of hers (who had a son in my sisters grade) … they were talking about how they thought both their kids wanted to go to the prom but were both so shy and had noone to go with. I think the lady must have said something to her son (who was friends with my sister) because two days later on her myspace wall (of all places) he wrote “would you like to go to prom with me?” she writes back “that would be nice.” on his wall. I thought it was hilarious. I guess they had a good time. Prom at our high school goes all night long, She said by like 12 or 1 he spread off with his friends and she spread off with her friends, and then at like 6 am they met up together and came home.</p>
