Looking for a bike in Indianapolis for one week

Hi there,

I will participate in the Microscopy and Microanalysis conference in Indianapolis from August 4-10. It would be nice to have a bicycle to get around a bit during the week. Is there anyone who would share her/his bike with me for a few days? Or, do you know another forum where to ask? Is there a maret for used bikes where I could buy one for little money and sell it again after one week?

Cheers
Philipp

When I was on campus last week I saw a bike shop that had used bikes for sale (maybe rent too?). It was on 10th Street I believe, though I can’t recall the name, it appeared to me a mom and pop place, hopefully a Google search of bike shop and 10th Street Bloomington, IN and you would get a number. Otherwise check Craigslist.

Thanks for the reply! I found the shop on google and contacted them. Maybe it helps. I did check Craigslist, but there was not too much on offer… It did not look very promising. Thanks again!

You are welcome, glad I could help!

A bike shop in Bloomington isn’t going to be much help for you in Indianapolis. I have a little knowledge of that particular bike shop though. They might be able to send you to some place in Indianapolis.

I know there are several places to rent bikes in downtown Indianapolis, but they are hourly places. Indianapolis doesn’t currently have a bike share program. I think a company was recently awarded federal money to bring one to downtown, but that won’t help you right now.

The Indianapolis downtown is fairly small and easily walkable. While some might find a bike convenient, it’s certainly not necessary in Indianapolis. Most hotels are within 10 minutes, or less, walking distance to the convention center. The same applies to restaurants, shops, etc.

Rrah and pomI88, that was my error, I am sorry I missed that your conference was in Indy. I would agree with Rrah, downtown Indy is walkable, plus, unlike Bloomington it is flat terrain. Also a wonderful transit system. You could probably purchase a one week bus pass.
