Looking For A New Coffee Maker

I’ve had my current Zojirushi model for probably 5-6 years. I liked it because it wasn’t as small as the 4 cup pots but not a full size. (It makes “5 cups”). D2 is wanting to try a coffee maker in her apt and I’m willing to give her mine so I can get a new one. What a mom, right!?

Unless someone is staying here (my kids) I only make a cup each weekend day. I drink my one cup at work M-F. But my kids do come for weekends and other occasional guests but no need for a “full pot” of coffee.

So what I’m looking for:
Compact size (but not a mini Mr. Coffee type) - to take minimum counter space.
Modern look
Automatic shut off

Would love it to make a latte, but not going to spend that kind of $$ most likely!!

Don’t want a single serve like a Keurig - it’s not going to happen.
Don’t want a French Press.
No cold brew.

Just a nice looking, mid priced, not needing 12 cups of coffee, coffee pot!

(wondering if Amazon Prime next Monday might bring some models on sale!)

If you’re only making a cup or two, why not a Keurig? Sounds like you like what you have. I’d keep what you have, and get your D2 a new one.

We have a Hamilton Beach 1cup model that accepts kerig or loose coffee. H id content with it — got it free from a relative who got it as a golf tourney door prize. I’d likely buy whatever Costco or Macy’s has at a good/sale price and be done with it. H drinks coffee but I don’t. He’s not picky.

I have a Mr Coffee that I use daily. I also have a Nespresso, that was a gift from my son. He uses it when he visits. At work, we have a Keurig. My home one works fine and is cheap. If I did get a home Keurig, I’d set it to make the largest size. That would work well.

Don’t want a Keurig for a number of reasons. Don’t think it makes great coffee - even when I use a refill cup. Don’t appreciate the throw away cup concept. Don’t like the “small cups” - even on the largest size. Family feels the same and would not be best use of a pot when I do have other people drinking.

I have been thinking of replacing for awhile. When D2 was interested, it gave me more of a push. This one is for me!

To reemphasize…
DON’T want a one cup (great if you like yours - it’s not what I’m looking for recommendations on!)
Looks are important to me. I want it to add to the counter landscape - call me vain if you want…

It’s not exactly modern looking… but I have a small farberware percolator. It makes excellent coffee.

This coffee maker got great reviews at Seattle Coffee Gear.

Aeropress. As a bonus, it fits nicely in the cabinet or a drawer, takes up no counter space.
5 mornings and 7 evenings a week I use Nespresso, and recycle the pods.
Weekend mornings bigger cups of coffee with Aeropress.

We’ve been pretty happy with our Ninja Coffee Bar. You can make from 1 cup to a carafe under multiple settings. It might take up more counter space than you want, but it is pretty light so you can store it in larger cabinet space. It’s available in different iterations on Amazon.

I’ve purchased coffee from both Seattle Coffee Gear and Whole Latte Love. I purchased a Very nice espresso machine from alottehotte.com. They all have people who will help guide you.
It doesn’t sound like your purchase will be high dollar, but I have found them willing to negotiate price.
Also, Bed Bath and Beyond has lots of options online.

D1 has the Aeropress - I bought it for her at her request! - won’t fit the bill for me.

I will check out the links above - thanks!

This one is rated highly, but might be what you already had:

^^ EXACTLY what I have!!! Again, just ready for something new and this is perfect to pass onto daughter. (one big negative of my model which looks exactly like this - no automatic shut off!)

Not for abasket, just a side note. We stayed at a hotel that had a Nespresso with pods. No other water heating devices were provided. Mister is not a fan of espresso, and because I could not dilute his espresso, I “brewed” the same capsule 3 times for him. His improvised coffee turned out to be very good, and it was super fast, like 1.5 min per cup. I am afraid he got spoiled and turned into a coffee snob, so I now have to spurge on the stupid pods instead of paying pennies for his favorite instant swill!

If the aesthetics of the coffee maker are important to you check out the Russell Hobbs Glass Accent Collection - very sleek. They also have a retro collection that looks very good and doesn’t look all that retro to my eye. I am thinking of purchasing the one with the red accent after seeing it in my neighbors kitchen. Really adds some color to her countertop. She loves it and says it is well made and user friendly.

^^^ Those are attractive!!! Thanks!

We have a Keurig style coffeemaker, two sizes of French press, an Aero press, and a Melitta pour over gadget. Usually we use a French press, but when DH goes out for coffee and I’m just making one cup for myself, I choose the pour over. It’s the way my grandma used to make coffee for my grandpa, and now my D has one in her dorm (easy cleanup). I thought it was funny when they came into fashion with the hipster crowd a few years ago. It’s maybe not going to be the most stylish on the kitchen counter, although there’s more attractive ones out there than my $4 plastic one, and it doesn’t do all the work for you.

There are automated pour over coffee makers that would heat the water and pour it over ground coffee for you!
