Looking For A New Coffee Maker

I like good coffee, but I think I will leave the roasting and bean choice to George Howell, my favorite coffee roaster and purveyor. Plus, I am lazy. Other favorite coffee is 49th Parallel from Vancouver, BC. Friend who is was in the coffee business turned me on to it. Anyone else have a favorite coffee?

I’m like whatever the opposite of having a favorite coffee is. I like to get a different coffee varietal every time. As long as it’s single origin, fair trade, and freshly roasted, I love trying a different bean each time just due to the sheer variety available.

Sadly, every once in a while I’ll try something for the first time and think, “omg this is a amazing” but then I can’t get it again because I always immediately toss the bag the beans come in. Trying different coffees is a little bit like “Life is like a box of chocolates” for me, I guess - I like the anticipation and surprise.

OMG I have not been online much yesterday - just seeing this now! How much was that pot yesterday @BunsenBurner or @thumper1 ??? You’re so kind to share it! It’s $149 today. Dang it did I miss a deal? Looks sweet! Will look at it better anyway.

$89. :frowning: Maybe they will have it on sale sometimes again!

And I now see I made a typo when I paged you. Dang double buses! So hard to type when they make their shaky turns.

I wouldn’t have seen it anyway - I don’t think I was on last night. :frowning: $89 wow! I may look elsewhere or see if it comes up again. No worries!

@BunsenBurner it’s OK…i tagged @abasket yesterday!

Chemex

Well, I put that Gourmia maker on my Amazon wish list and although it isn’t as good as the “deal” price of $89.99 it was on sale today for $119 as opposed to the usual $149 so just placed an order - Will let you know how I like it!

I’m feeling a little guilty for spending that $$$ on a small coffee maker but I really didn’t want a mega pot and I really wanted something a little slimmer and modern looking. And of course, hoping for a decent cup of coffee.

Thanks to @BunsenBurner for the heads up on this model!!! (and to @thumper1 for her valiant effort to try and alert me as well by tagging me on the “deal” day that I missed!!!)

Fingers crossed! Hope it performs for you! Love to hear the reviews as I am thinking about getting something like this for kiddo the coffee drinker.

@abasket, please let us know how you like it. I’ve been wanting to replace the machine my husband uses for quite some time, and I like the looks of the one you’re getting.

@1214mom and all, reporting on the new Gourmia coffee maker!

Arrived yesterday and made my first cup this morning. The process of watching the “pour over” water release circle around and around was Snapchat worthy to send to my kids!! Really, I am not a coffee expert but my cup of coffee was GOOD. Not bitter at all, smooth. Could be all in my head but it really just tasted pleasant.

Also the construction of the maker is substantial. Very good looking, not a lightweight. The water carafe on the back is a solid glass material. The cone filter of quality as well. It’s slim width wise but a little deeper than I was expecting so I also did a little kitchen counter re-do and put the maker actually in a better spot than before. You could set it sideways but then you don’t see the fun front as well.

Seems to be a keeper! Easy set up, easy to use. You have the “2” or “4” cup option. In my experience “2” actually means “1” in most mugs - but it was a very generous “1” when I made “2”! The size is going to be fine for me 85% of the time. The other 15% I’ll just made a second round. No biggie.

Thank you again (especially @BunsenBurner who found this model) for the journey! I ended up paying $119 and using some Amazon CC points to pay less than $100 for it. The price did fluctuate over the two weeks I watched it (since that $89 deal day I missed…) from $149 to $129 to $119 when I caved.

@abasket, thanks for the update. If anyone notices it for less than $100 again, please let me know.
One question - did it take longer than normal to make a cup, or was it about the same as the old one?

I think it was about the same. Certainly didn’t seem much less or more. I think I like is that the carafe will hold enough water for probably a few rounds of a good sized cup (or in their language “2 cups”!) So for me it won’t have to be refilled every time I brew - which is an advantage over my old maker.

Thanks for the reviews, @abasket !

$110 is a lot of money… until you think of it in terms of “Starbucks units.” It is only about 30 Strabucks coffees…

Glad to “meet” another Farberware fan. My 4-cup will be 42 years old in October, used every day of its life, and I believe that when it goes, it will be the Almighty’s way of telling me that I’ve had enough coffee for my lifetime. Probably not the optimum or gourmet way to brew, but I like my coffee very hot and I drink it like a Marine, black no sugar. BTW, I still have my Farberware pots and electric frypan too!

Just FYI, you can track the price ups and downs of something on camelcamelcamel.com. They will send you an alert if it gets to the level that you set for it. It’s primarily for Amazon but it will check other sites too.

Hmm, I didn’t know we needed a new coffee maker but that one sounds rather good. May surprise H with it for Christmas.

@abasket, how is the new coffee maker working out? Can you make only 1 cup of coffee, or do you need to make 2? My husband is down to drinking less than a full cup of coffee, so I don’t want him wasting a lot every day if I decide to buy the one you got.
I do have to admit, I’m seriously considering the $9.99 small mr coffee on sale at target this week. (He’s currently using the Krups small machine I got back in 1987).

I really like it. Both my daughters love it too and have it on their Christmas list - I’m checking it daily again to see if they have it on sale!

If I have it on the “2 cup” setting it makes on nice big but regular sized mug of coffee. The “4 cup” would make 2 full nice sized mugs. The water reservoir in the back of the machine hold probably enough for 5 servings of a nice sized mug.

My H does not drink coffee so I mainly use it on the weekends to make myself one nice sized mug. It’s so fast and easy. Turn the “on” button, scoop in the coffee to the durable liner, press the “2 cup” button. Coffee is ready in probably 2-3 minutes.

But it’s price can’t compare at all with a $9.99 deal!!!

If you see it on sale again, please post and let us know.
Could you just put less water in and have it make 1/2 cup?
Thanks
